MEANS FOR REINFOBCING- TRACES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2'7, 1915.
Application filed November 30, 1914. Serial No. 874,780.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. POLLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hunnewell, in the county of Shelby and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Beinforcing Traces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means for reinforcing traces and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a trace, parts being broken away to illustrate the reinforcing means. Fig. 2 is a sectional view centrally through the trace. Fig. 8 is a cross sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a modified form of my reinforcing device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a trace which is made preferably of a strap doubled upon itself and sewed together with a filler B intermediate the same, leaving a space intermediate the filler. In the drawings, 1 have shown a trace hook eyelet D at one end which is fastened to the strap and about a crosspiece of said eyelet a cable, designated by letter F, passes, the two strands of the cable passing longitudinally through the trace and held spaced apart by means of an intermediate filler O. The strands of the wire have, at intervals opposite the walls H in the strap, plates or eyelets, designated by letter K, the aperture in each of which is in registration with the two apertures which pass through the two layers of the strap forming the trace, thus forming a means whereby the eyelets will prevent the tearing of the strap adjacent to the apertures there in. The ends of the wire are fastened to a pivot N which is securely fastened to the trace at any suitable location.
In the modified form of reinforcing device as illustrated in the drawings, a wire twisted together and designated by letter R is mounted between the folded portions of the strap and securely fastened therein, eyelets S being provided which are adapted to register with the eyes formed in the strap.
By the provision of a trace made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a simple and efficient means is provided for reinforcing the same, the reinforcing means being out of sight, while the eyelets, secured to the cable, are held in registration with the apertures to protect the marginal edges of the latter.
What I claim to be new is:
A trace consisting of a strap doubled upon itself, a filler piece between the marginal portions of each edge of the doubled strap, a pin about which the central portion of the strap is bent, a wire bent upon itself to form two reinforcing strands and fastened to said pin, a filler intermediate the said strands of the wire and arranged to hold the said strands against the inner edges of the filler pieces which are secured to the marginal portions of the strap, means for fastening the ends of the wire together, and metallic eyelets secured to said wire and held in position thereon by the filler intermediate the strands of the wire, said strap having apertures registering with the apertures in said metallic eyelets.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. POLLARD.
