Description

tintin %tai5 peat l effet HENRY HENLEY, SIIOALS, INDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 113,430, dated April 4, 187-1.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOI-CRlMPERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent `and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
struction andarrangement of a boot-crimp, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, and
Figure 2, an edge View of my boot-crimp.
My boot-crimp is composed of two parts, the clamp and the saddle. v
The clamp consists of two pieces, A A, of wood, tightened together' by means of a thumb-nut a, on a screw-bolt, b, which passes through the two pieces of wood. 1
The saddle consists of two jaws B B, held together by means ot' two spring bars G G, and to which jaws the two pieces D l) of leather are firmly secured.
The peculiar shape of the parts composing the saddle are fully shown in the accompanying drawing. The clamp A A clamps the saddle together at a point just above the angle of the crimping-board.
, The leather toV be crimped is laid in proper shape on the crimping-board G, which board sits upon its heel, and when being pressed together by the clamp tightly, the lsaddle is drawn down over the board, wit-l1 the leather or boot front on the board and under the saddle.
When a strong pressure is exerted by the power of a lever on the jaws of the saddle, it draws over the board while the clamp slips up, all the time retaining its position at the top of the board; hence there is a very severe rubbing process over this leather-to be l crimped, and the tighter. the clamp is the harder the saddle rubs over the boot front. rlhis rubbing is what takes' ont the wrinkles from the leather.
, 'lhe mechanism for drawing the saddle down over the crimping-board I have not deemed it necessary to represent here. It consists of a frame iirmly secured to the wall, in which frame is a slide to which two hooks are attached, said hooks catching inthe center of the jaws B B,A and draw 4thesaddle down, the slide being forced down by a lever suitably arranged. Having thus fully described my invention,
Wh'atI claim as new', and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.V
The boot-crimp herein described, composed of the clamp A A, and the saddle formed of the jaws B B, spring bars C C, crimping-board G, and leather pieces D' D, all constructed and. arranged to operate sub,- stantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own l atiix my signature in presence'of two witnesses.
- HENRY HENLEY.
