Be it known that we,,,THEOPHILUs M. RAWLS and ROBERT A. MILLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Dublin, in the county of Erath, State of Texas, have invented a new and useful l/Vindow Shade, Curtain, and Drapery Hanger, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention appertains to a hanger or fixture for supporting a window shade, curtain and drapery, and aims to p vide a novel and improved device of that character.

The present invention contemplates the provision of a hanger or fixture of the nature indicated, embodying a unique assemblage or component parts, and improved generally in its construction, to enhance the utility of the device, and to render the device adjustable to accommodate various windows and window shades.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in thecombination and arrangement of parts and'in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front view of the device, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device, parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is an end view, and Fig. 4 is a secti onal detail taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3.

In carrying out the present invention, there is provided an extensible or adjust able flat member 1 comprising a pair of bars or strips 2 and 3 of suitable length and thickness, and overlapped, the edges of the rearmost bar or strip 2 being equipped with reflexed or bent back lips 4 forming a slideway or guide which receives the bar 3, to slidably'connect the two strips.

To the ends of the extensible member 1, is attached a pair of end pieces or brackets 5, preferably stamped from sheet metal of suitable gage, and of suitable contour. The openings or apertures 15 of the ears 14: are adapted to receive a tubular drapery pole 19, and socketed ornamental heads 20 are adapted to be slipped over the protruding ends of the curtain and drapery poles 18 and 19.

In order to retain the pole 18 properly within the seats or openings 16, the pole 18 is preferably provided adjacent its ends, with outstruck opposed stops or lugs 21 having slots 22 therebetween, The stops or lugs 21 are adapted to engage the opposite sides or faces of the end pieces 5, to prevent the longitudinal shifting of the curtain pole 18, and the slots 22 enable the curtain pole 18 to be readily slid through the slots 17 into and out of the openings or seats 16, when the curtain pole 18 is rotated to the proper position, as will be apparent. The lugs or stops 21 at the opposite ends of the curtain pole 18, are preferably reversed, or project in opposite directions, as seen in Fig. 1, in order that one pair of lugs 21 will always engage or straddle the edge of one opening or seat 16, to prevent the longitudinal movement of the curtain pole 18.

In order to prevent the longitudinal movement of the drapery pole 19, the same is preferably provided at-one end with a pair of opposed outstruck steps or lugs 23, which are arranged to be snapped through one or the other of the apertures 15., when the drapery pole '19 is inserted longitudinally through the ears 1a, and in order that the stops 23 may engage the opposite sides of one of the end pieces 5, as seen in Fig. 1, to hold the pole 19 against accidental longitudinal shifting. It is to be noted that each pair of stops have outstanding shoulders facing each other and inclined faces extending from the surface of the pole toward each other to the shoulders, whereby the shoulders are engageable with of one of the brackets to hold the pole 1 against longitudinal movement, and whereby the said inclined .faces enable the stops Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the the opposite sides r to snap through ets.
