To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS J. JARNIGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denton, in the county of Denton and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Churn, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to churns, one of its objects being to provide a churn having two dashers mounted for reciprocation, simple and efficient means being provided for actuating these dashers.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing vfrom the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a churn body having a removable cover 2 provided with spaced openings 3 in which the rods 4 of the dash# ers 5 are adapted to reciprocate. rIhe cover 2 carries a standard 6 in which is fulcrumed a lever 7 having oppositely extending arms of equal length, there being another arm 8 upstanding from the center of this lever and provided at its upper end with a weight 9. Links 10 are connected to the ends of the oppositely extending arms of lever 7 and also to the upper ends of the dasher rods 4.
Upstanding from the cover 2 adjacent opposite portions of each opening 3 are parallel guide rods 11, these rods being slidably engaged by ears 12 extending in opposite directions from asleeve 13 secured to the dasher rods 4. A coiled spring 14 is secured to each of the oppositely extending arms of lever 7 these springs 14 being attached at their lower ends to the cover 2.
It will be apparent that by providing dashers with operating mechanism such as described, it is possible to actuate the dashers with the expenditure of but little energy. By pushing against the upwardly extending arm 8, the weight 9 will facilitate the movement of the lever, this movement extending one of the springs 14 so as to place it under stress. During this movement of the lever, one dasher 5 will move downwardly while the other dasher 5 will move upwardly. When the arm 8 is released, the spring 14 which is under stress will swing lever 7 back toward its initial position, weight 9 serving to carry the lever past its central or normal position so that but little additional power is necessary to further actuate lever 7 in order to lower the other dasher while the one previously lowered is being raised.
Importance is attached to the fact that all of the mechanism is carried by the cover 2 so that it is thus possible to apply the mechanism readily to one of several churn bodies. The guide rods 11 and the parts engaging the same serve to keep the dasher rods 4 in proper alinement during their operation.
What is claimed is The combination with a churn cover and a standard secured thereon, of dasher rods mounted to reciprocate within the cover, a centrally fulcrumed lever supported on the standard, opposed balanced springs connecting the arms of the lever to the cover, link connections between the ends of the lever and the respective dasher rods, a weighted arm extending upwardly from the center of the lever and at right angles to said lever, said arm being maintained by the springs normally in a vertical position, guides upstanding from the churn cover, and means upon the dasher rods for slidably engaging the guides. v
