Description

CHARLES BEENY, OALBANY, NEW YORK.
LettersAPatent No. 112,767, dated March 21,1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAT AND CAP-HOLDERS- The Schedule referred to'in these Letters Patent and making pax-1: of the same.
Total! whom it lina/y con-cern.- I
Be it known that I, CHARLES BEENY, of Albany,
,in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Device for Holding Hats and Gaps when not in'use; and I hereby declare that the following is a specification of my said invention.
The object of my invention is- To construct a holder for hats land caps, by which they may be suspended from the wall of ahall or bed-v room, or wardrobe, or other 'place where the head apparel iskept when not in use.
In the accompanying drawing--v Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention.
,I Figure 2 is a vertical central section of thesame.
A is asheetmetal tapering spring, formed in the shape shown in figs-1 and l2. y
The upper end of said spring A is secured by rivets e, o1" other-wise, to a flat plate B, as shown in the same iigures. A
The lower end of 'spring A is curved, as shown at b,iu iigs. 1 and 2.
Gis asquare staple, which `is secured to plate B, and stands over spring A, at any convenient distance from its top, say about one-third the length of spring A from its top. The object of said staple G is to preventr'spriug A from being pulled'up too far, thus being a protection to spring A.y
D is a small circular piec'evof rubber, or rubber-cloth, secured into a corresponding 'depression D', made in the center of the lower partei' plate B, and immediately under the lower or curved end of spring A, as shown in g. 2.
Eis a central section of a hat or cap, showing the operation of my invention, or the relative and proper position of a hat or cap when being held by .my irnproved holder.
In place oi' the sheet or ribbon-spring, my improved hat and vcap-holder may be secured singly, or in any desired numbers, to a block or a strip of wood, and hung against the wall by means of backsuspending plates d, shown in iig. 1, or by means of hooks f, shown in iig. 2.
They can be suspended to the back part of a carseat, or to any other convenient part of a car; or the 'plate B can be permanently secured to the backs of seats in public halls, theaters, churches, and other places of public resort.
It Vwill be seen from the above description that the mode of using my invention will be to secure the holderl in any place required, viz., in a hall, oranteroom, or in a wardrobe, or in acar, or on the back of a seat, 85e.; then by thrusting the rim of ahat or cap between the spring A and plate D, the said hat or cap will be securely held for any length of time.
All that is necessary to do to release' the hator cap Y is to p'ull ,the same downward, which will instantly release it.
Vand for the purpose herein shown and described.
