UNITED SrATEs-PATENT OFFICE.
WVILLIAM B. WHITNEY, OF LEOMINSTEB, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND F. A. WHITNEY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDS CARRIAG ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 112,662, dated March 14, 1871.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. WHITNEY, of Leominster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Baby-Carriage;-
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to hand-carriages for children and consists in an improved construction thereof, as hereinafter first described,
' and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the carriage, one of the wheels being shown in dotted lines. 2 is atop or plan View.
, Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the body. B
Fig.
represents the lower springs, which bow downward, and are fastened to the axle O, as represented. The front ends of these springs are connected with the body by carriage-spring joints, as seen at D. Their rear ends are connected with the upper springs, E,by loop-joints, as seen at F.
the front ends of the upper springs are fastened. H represents braces, which are firmly fastened to the back of the body A and to the ends of the cross-bar G. Only the central portion of Gr is curved; the ends are divided as seen in Fig. 2, by which construction the bar is made light and the connection strong and durable.
By this arrangement of parts an extremely light, easy, and durable carriage for babies or infant children is provided, and its advantages over the common baby-carriages in use must be apparent to all.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The cross-bar G, upper and lower springs, E B, braces H, and bracket D, combined, as described, for hanging the body of a childs car- 'riage;
WM. B. WHITNEY.
Wit nesses S. M. FRosT, P. LATHROP.
