Baarn-LAMP.
`Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 26, 1915.
Application filed June 19, 1913. Serial No. 774,634.
which the bulb shall be protected from pilferers.
The invention consists in a structure as hereinafter described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front' view of the lamp as applied to a wall; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, the position of the front when-open being indicated in dotted lines; and Fig. Sis a plan section on the lineB-S of Fig. 2.
The lamp is adapted to be applied to a wall, as 10, the latter being apertured to receive the body 11 of a lamp casing, and a suitable switch box 12. The body 11 of the casing is formed as an integral part of the face plate 13, which fits against the wall 10 and covers the aperture therein. This face plate is attached to the wall by means of screws, as 14, 15, and the body portion of the casing 11 forms an alcove or housing for an incandescent bulb 16, a socket 17 for holding the bulb, and a bracket 18 to which the socket is secured, as by means of screws the plate 20 is secured to the plate 13 by 19. The bracket 18 is attached to a cover plate 20 by means of screws 21, this cover plate being hinged at 22 to the plate 13 below the body 11, and overlapping the margins of the aperture in this body so as to form a closure therefor. The upper end of means of a screw 23. The upper portion of the plate 20 is apertured, as shown at 24, to permit the light from the bulb to be emitted. The upper portion of the aperture 21 is preferably covered by an outstanding hood 25, which serves to protect the bulb, and this hood may take the form of an open grill for emitting light upwardly; a reflector 32, preferably of diaphanous material, being fitted within the hood and serving to reiect a portion of the light downward. The inner surfaces of the body 11 and of the cover plate 20 are preferably nickel-plated, or otherwise treated to reiec't the light, and the body 11 is so curved as to directthe major portion o`f the lightv rays `outwardly and downwardly through the aperture 24.
The switch boX 12 may be of any desired construction, and is shown as being provided with two push buttons 26, 27, projecting through the plate 13. The electric `wires 28, 29, for serving the bulb 16 are properly associated with the switch boX 12, and lead through a suitable aperture in the casing 11 to the binding screws 30, 31, on the lamp socket 17.
The vertical length of the casing 11 is such that the bulb, when properly engaged with the socket, will reach substantially to its top, and hence cannot be removed from the socket without opening the cover plate 20.
I claim as my invention 1. In a berth lamp, in combination, a face plate adapted for attachment to a-wall and having an instanding body or housing,
an aperturedplate hinged to the face plate for covering the front of the body or housing, means for securing the apertured plate in closed position, and a socket for an electric bulb secured to the innerface of the apertured -plate and leading-in wires secured to the socket support.
2. In a berth lamp, 1n combination, a face plate adapted for attachment to a wall and having an instanding body or housing, an apertured plate hinged to the face plate for covering the front of the body or housing, means for securing the apterture'd plate in closedl position, a socket for an electric bulb secured to the inner face of the apertured plate, leading-in wires secured to the socket support and an outstanding hood on the last-named plate and overhanging its aperture. A
3. In a berth lamp, in combination, a face plate adaptedfor attachment to a wall and having an instanding body or housing, an apertured plate hinged to the face plate for covering the front of the body or housing, means for securing the apertured plate in closed position, a socket for an electric bulb secured to the inner face of the apertured plate, leading-in wires secured to the socket support and a bulb mounted in the socket, such bulb extending substantially to the top of the body or housing.
4. In a berth lamp, in combination, a face plate adapted for attachment to a Wall and 5 In a berth lamp, in combination, a. face plate adapted for attachment to a Wall and having an instanding body or housing, an
apertured plate removably secured to the face plate for covering the front of the body or housing, and a socket for an electric bulb.
secured to the inner face of the apertured plate, and leading-in Wires secured to the socket support.
