0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARGARET ANN GUINAN, a citizenof the United States, residing at Hudson, in the county of Columbia and State of New 'York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to garments for feminine wear, particularly to underskirts, and has for its object the provision of a gar ment'of this character which is formed from a single piece of material without the necessity of gores and seams, an which may be quickly and easily applied and adjusted to fit widely different figures or changes in an individual figure, and which will fit snugly and smoothly around the waist and hips, thus avoiding bunching 7 or an undesirable degree of'fullness.

Other objects and advantages such as simplicity, e fliciency, durability, ease of applying and removing, economy in manufacture and the general improvement of the art will be brought out in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a figure showing method of attaching my improved skirt, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the skirt applied, and Fig. 3 is a view of the skirt removed and flattened out to show the structure.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the body of the skirt which has its upper and lower ends 2 and 3 formed arcuate, as shown, and its side edges 4: and 5 formed straight. The top end 2 may be finished in any desired manner as by stitching on a narrow binding 6. The bottom end 3 may be finished as by stitching on any suitable trimming as for instance the ruflie 7, but the edges 4 and 5 should be bound with tapewhjchis on the straight as opposed to the cloth which is on the bias.

The skirt is applied by placing it upon -.the figure with the edge-4 in the back, as shown in :Fig. 1, then bringing the edge 5 over the edge 4 so that they'overlap, and

then bringing .the tapes 10 around the waist and tving them in front. The tape 12 may th n--be*passed thrcugh the loop 11, where- -upbn a pull upon the tape 12 will cause the skirt to conform closely to the hips. The button 14 may then be inserted within the 'proper one of the button holes in the tape 15 for securing the skirt snugly upon the figure. The button 16 may then be inserted within a selected one of the button holes in the skirt and also allowing the desired amount of fullness, as shown in Fig. 2.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the skirt may fit snugly around the hips while the bottom portion may be either very tight, very full, or have any desired intermediate degree of fullness. The fact that the button 16 and button hole tape 17 are above the bottom end 3 shows that great freedom of movement of the feet may be had even though the skirt may be tight. It will also be noted that the darts 8 and 9 give the skirt the proper curvature at its upper portion to prevent bagging, sagging or bunching.
