EASY FASTENER. APPLmA'nox riuso sEPT,15.1o14.
Patented Dec. 29, 1914.
L lll mlmmimimmmlmm IHHHHHHHHHHHHHH /ffa ROBERT BRUCE, OF WELLINGTON, KANSAS.
BASF-FASTENER.
peomcation of Letten Patent.
Patented Dec. 29, 1914.
Application Med leptember 15, 1914. Serial No. 861,853.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronsar Bancs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wellington, in the county of Sumner and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Hasp-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The resent invention relates to improvements in hasp fasteners, the same being a perfected form of the hasp fastener shown in my U. S. Letters Patent, No. 1,079,390, granted to me November 25, 1913, one object of the present invention bein the provision of a novel construction for t ie mounting of the key, whereby the sanie is always dis iosed in ready position for insertion witlhin the has to lock the same and receive the usual llocking means for the saaie.
A further object of the present invention, is to simplify the construction of the hasp fastener above referred to, thus making the same less expensive to manufacture and more iractical and eflicient in use. n
Witi the foregoing and other objects 1n view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and ui the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the sco e of what is claimed without departing rom the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a car door with m improved hasp fastener operably aecuredt iereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hasp fastener. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 8--3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the key per se. Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 8.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 4 designates the hasp which is provided with a slot 5 extending therethrou h and adjacent one of the edges thcreo is a raised shoulder the latter being provided with an opening 7 extending transversely therethrough. The remote end of the hasp is provi( ed with an aperture 8 exten ing therethrough for the reception of a securing stalple 9 as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
igidly secured to the car wall is a base late 10 provided with a lug 11 that projects therefrom and which lug is provided with an aperture 12 disposed transversely therethrough, and an aperture 13 formed at right angles to the first mentioned aperture oi' longitudinally through the lug. 'lhe lug 11 is oi such a size that it passes freely and at the same time snugly through the slot or o cnin of the hasp. The base 10 is provi ed with the aperture 14 extending therethrough` which aperture provides means whereby the base plate may be rigidly secured to the wall of the car or other supporting structure.
Attached to the base plate above the lug ll are the two parallel walls 15, which support the pin 16 adapted to fit in the elongated slot 17 of the key 18, said key being so disposed that it will slide between the walls 15 and be normally guided therein, in a vertical position so that its reduced end l0 will be projected into and out of the aperture or opening 13. 'l`he lower end of the slot 17 is enlarged as at .20 so that when the parts are in the position as shown in Figs. Z and Ii, the enlarged end 20 will aline with the ownings 7 and 1Q so that a pad lock or seai Q1 may be passed therethrough as illustrated in Fig. 1. lt will thus be seen that the key 18 is always disposed in ready position for operation, either for withdrawal from the lug 11 or for insertion therein, the saine when fully extended upwardly assuming tho dotted line position as shown in Fig. 2, the end 18 en aging the rear wall of the sup orting mein icr thereof adjacent the base p ate 10 so that the key may be supported in elevated iosition without being entirely reversed, tiie end 1i) always being downward. It will thus be seen that with this structure, that the objection to the key therein shown which is attached to the base late by a chain, is overcome, the key being thus disposed always in proper position for the introduction therein or the removal therefrom.
Vhat is claimed is:
The combination with a has having an opening through the body, an( with a lug projecting at right angles therefrom and provided with an aperture, of a base plate provided with a lug, said lug being provided with an aperture adapted to aline with the aperture of the lug of the hasp to receive a locking member, said lug further being provided with an aperture at right angles thereto, a pair of plates carried by the base plate, a pin mounted in said plates, the insertion therethrough of the locking 11.15? a key provided with a longitudinal slot member,
mounted upon the pin for guidance between In testimony that I claim the foregoing the plates, the free end of the pin being as my own,-I have hereto allixed my signudisposed for registration with the longituture in the presence of two witnesses.
dinal o ening of the lug, the lower end of ROBERT BRUCE. the sai slot of the key being enlarged for Witnesses:
registration .with the a ertures of the shoul- F. E. KRAMER,
der of the hasp and o the lug to permit of BYRON F. WYNN.
