WILLIAM L. BROOKS, OF ARDMORE, OKLAHOMA.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15. 1914:.
Application filed August 25, 1914. Serial No. 858,483.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. BROOKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ardmore, in the county of Carter and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Gas-Burner, of which the following is a specification.
' The present invention relates to improvements in gas burners, one object ofthe invention, being the provision of an exceedingly simple and durable burner of this character, which is adapted to be readily placed within a range or furnace, and to burn gas either natural or artificial, so that the greatest heat units may be obtained therefrom, said burner being composed of fittings, that render the same easily installed and after once adjusted remain in such condition until the same is worn out.
A further object of the present invention, is the provision of a gas burner, in which the main conducting pipe is provided with a plurality of perforations or jets through which the gas is directed concentrically of and below a burner tube, so that the proper amount of air may be commingled with the gas to produce the desired heating flame at the outlet end of the tube.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete burner constructed according to and embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the burner.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the supply pipe for directing gas-in this instance into one outlet of the T-coupling 2, through the burner tube 3. An L-coupling 4 is connected to one end of the pipe 3, while the pipe 3 is perforated at equi-distant points through the upper portion thereof as at 5 so as to form a plurality of gas directing jets leading therefrom.
Connected in the L-coupling, and in the upper outlet of the T-coupling 2, are the respective vertical sealed pipes 6 and 6 which constitute end supports for the burner tube carrying plate or support 7 This plate fits over the said end supports and is clamped fixedly thereto by means of the set screws 8 and 8. I
The burner tube support 7 is provided with a plurality of apertures 9, one to each i of the respective gas outlets 5 and detachably connected therein are the burner tubes 10, which arecylindrical pipes and are held in adjusted position by'the set screws 10. By this means the burner support 7 may be adjusted relatively to the gas outlets 5 so that the same will be positioned at a proper distance therebelow for the delivery of the gas into the lower ends of such tubes,
thus insuring the proper amount and mixture of air therewith, so that the upper outof the gas, with the greatest possible heat units therefrom.
Where the present device is desired to be used in connection with utensil heating, a perforated cap 11, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, may be positioned over the outlet end of the respective burner tubes 10, or any one thereof.
In order to provide a shield at one side of the burner support 7 so that the gas leading from the respective jets5 will be properly directed into the respective tubes,
a deflector plate 12 is attached to the rear of the burner tube support 7 and depends downwardly therefrom to one side of the main jet carrying tube or pipe 3.
What is claimed is:
1. The herein described gas burner, including ahorizontally disposed gas supply pipe, an upright pipe disposed at right angles to one end thereof, the body of the horizontal pipe being provided with a plurality of equi-distantly spaced outlet jets upon theside from which the upright pipe projects, a second pipe carried by the supply pipe upon the same side as the upright pipe and in parallel to the upright pipe, a sealing cap dis posed; upon the upright and, 1
the second pipe, a plate slidably mounted upon the upright and the second pipes and limited in its upward movement by the sealing caps thereof, means for locking said plate upon the upright and second pipes for adjusting the same relatively to the horizontal pipe,'said platebeing provided with a plurality of openings therethrough, one to each jet, and a plurality of cylindrical tubes one disposed in each opening With its end adjacent to and spaced from its respective jet of the horizontal pipe,
2. The herein described gas burner, ineluding a horizontally disposed gas supply pipe, an upright pipe disposed at right angles to one end thereof, the'body of the horizontalpipe being provided With a plurality v of equi-distantly spaced outlet jets upon the side from Which the upright pipfe projects, a second pipe carried by the supply pipe upon the same side as the upright pipe and in parallel with theupright pipe, a sealing cap disposed upon the upright pipe and the second pipe, a plate slidably mounted upon the upright "and second pipes and liinited in its upward movement by the sealing capthereof; means 'for'locking said plate upon the upright and second pipes and-for adjusting the same relatively to the horizontal pipe said plate being provided With a 'pl11 rality of openings therethrough one to'each jet, a plurality of cylindrical tubes one disposed in each opening With its end adjacent to and spaced from'its respective jet of the horizontal ipe, and'a shield provided with tWo pipe embracingm'embers for engaging the upright and the second pipes at'a-point above the connection of the plate thereto whereby the body of the shield is disposed to depend at right angles to one edgezoi. the" plate and terminates at a point below the horizontal supplypipe. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in thepresence of two Witnesses.
