CORRUGATED PAPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 24, 1912. Serial No. 727,489.
paper or paper sheet and also to corrugated paper board, and the object of my invention is to provide an improved structure of corrugated paper. To this end I make a corrugated sheet of a plurality of corrugated strips and hold them together by means of parallel lines of'adhesive extending transversely of the corrugations.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspectiveof a corrugated paper board embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a similar View of a board but of the single faced variety; Fig. 3 a similar view showing my invention embodied in the double faced variety; Fig.
4 a perspective of a modified construction of corrugated paper sheet comprising three matched corrugated strips; and Fig. 5 a section on the line 55 of Fig. 2.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5, the corrugated sheet is composed of the two strips 1 AB which in practice are corrugated simultaneously ,so as to produce a double thickness of corrugated sheetherein shown. These two sheets are held togetherby parallel lines of adhesive C which extend transversely of the corrugations with the result that the strips constituting the corrugated sheet are held together only at intervals. In practice these lines of adhesive are applied to one of the strips before the strips are passed through corrugated rolls such as commonly used in the making of corrugated paper board.
The sheet or product thus far described,
that is just as shown in Fig. 1, can be put to any of the ordinary uses forwhich-the corrugated sheet is employed, sue/has bottle wrappers, and if desired such sheet may form one of the component parts of asingle faced corrugated paper board by applying the facing strip D, which is held to the.
crowns of the corrugated sheet, in the us'ual way by means ofadhesive. 'Such single faced corrugated board .is shown in Fig.
2 and in Fig. 3 I have illustrated my invention embodied in a double faced corrugated paper board by the addition of a second facing sheet E applied in the usual manner.
' In Fig. at I have shown a modified form of construction in which are employed three corrugated strips F, G, and H instead of the two strips as shown in Fig. 1, but otherwise the invention is the same inasmuch as the parallel lines of adhesive indicated at I are employed. My invention contemplates Patented Dec. il, 1914i.
the employment of a plurality of corrugated strips and while I have shown in one in-" stance two of such strips and in another instance three of them, it is understood that a greater number of such strips may be employed until .the desired thickness or strength is obtained, it being understood that these strips are united in the manner above described.
I am aware that it has heretofore been proposed to corrugate two sheets of paper simultaneously with an adhesive applied over the entire surface of one or both of the strips but the resulting product is so hard and brittle that it is practically impossible to score or bend it for box work. However,
by the employment of my invention, particularly by the cementing together of the strips only at intervals, 3. board suitable and satisfactory for box construction results. The board has the necessary strength and rigidity and at the same time it is not so .hard or brittle but that it may be scored 2. A corrugated paper board comprising 7 a corrugated sheet and aiming sheet or sheets secured to the crowns of the corrugations of the corrugated sheet, said corrugated sheet comprising a plurality of matched corrugated strips held together by continuous parallel lines of adhesive ex tending in a direction transversely of the corrugations. y
