Description

G. B. KELLEY. ADVERTISING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 8, 1912.
1, 1 1 8,904, Patented Nov. 24, 1914,
- UNIT D l STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE B. KELLEY, 0F EVANSION, ILLINOIS. .ASSIGNOR TO THE STUDEBAKER COR- PORATION, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
ADVERTISING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 24 1914 Application filed June 8, 1912. Serial No. 702,627.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnome B. KELLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Apparatus, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in advertising apparatus, being specially designed for displaying and advertising cereals.
One of the objects. of the invention is to provide a vehicle having a closed space in which granular cereals may be agitated and caused to circulate.
A further object is to provide means for agitating the cereal in such a manner that the same will have the effect of a continu ously flowing fountain.
A. further object is to provide means for operating the agitating means through the medium of the motor of an automobile, or
the like.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of an automobile with my invention applied thereto. Fig. .2 ,is a detail sectional view illustrating the agitating apparatus.
Referring to the drawing. 10 designates an automobile of any suitable or preferred construction, having its body decked over and provided with a dome 11 inclosed by glass panels 19, said dome being provided wi'h suitable air vents V. Mounted vertically within the dome 11 is a gun-shaped cone 13 open at the bottom, and beneath said cone is a hopper'shape'd pan let provided with a central opening which leads to and is connected with the open end of a tube 15 through which a blast of air is forced from a fan 16, located in the body of the vehicle. Said fan is driven from a shaft 17 carrying a friction pulley 18 on its forward end that is forced against the fly wheel 19 of the engine. The friction pulley 18 is controlled by a clutch, 20 operated by a treadle 21. The slide valve 22 in the pipe or tube 15 at the junction with hopper 14 may be used to control the blast, and a slide 23 in the hopper may be used as a cleanout. Doors 21 in the sides of the vehicle body, and a hinged panel 25in the dome give access to the apparatus.
In operation the grains of cereal, such as puffed material, are blown from the mouth of the cone 13, and strike the top of the dome 11. The latter causes said grains to curve mltwardly and fall in a spray which produces the effect of a continuous discharge. The shot grains fall back into the hopper l4 and are drawn by gravity into the blast from the tube 15, to be again discharged through the cone 13. It will be observed that the fan will stand idle, and the operation of the apparatus will cease when the pressure upon the friction pulley 18 is released.
Having thus explained the nature of my invention and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, what I claim 1s:-
1. In an advertising device the combination of a dome provided with transparent panels. of a discharge cone for granular material located within said dome, means for forcing granular material through said cone to the top of said dome, means for causing the said material to curve outwardly and downwardly whereby it will descend in shower form, and means for returning the showering material to said cone to be again discharged.
2. ln an advertising apparatus comprising a blast tube, a hopper shaped pan connected at its center with the upper end of said tube and supported thereby, said pan being provided with an opening at the point of connection for the passage of air discharged by said tube, and a discharge cone open at both ends and supported by said pan in alinement with said tube.
3. An advertising apparatus comprising a blast tube, a hopper shaped pan connected at its center with the upper end of said tube and supported thereby, said pan being provided with an opening at the point of connection for the passage of air discharged by said tube, a discharge cone open at both ends and supported by said pan in terposed between said pan and blast tube at the point of connection for regulating the volume of air passing through said hopper and cone.
l. In an advertising device the combina tion with a dome provided with transparent panels, of a discharge cone for granular material located within said dome, means for forcing granular material through said cone to the top of said dome, whereby said material will descend in shower form, and means for returning the showering material to said cone to be again discharged, the" roof of said doine being shaped to cause the granular material to curve outwardly and downwardly. 15 In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE B. KELLEY.
Witnesses HARRY E. VVESTERDALE, W. J. VVILLIAMs.
