UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH DGPPENSCHMITT, 0F PFOR-ZI-IEIM, GERMANY.
EXTENSIBLE TUBE FOR JEWELRY PURPOSES.
Application filed April 13, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnmmucn DoPrnN- SCHMITT, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Pforzheim, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extensible Tubes for Jewelry Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved form of extensible tube for bracelets and other jewelry purposes, and the invention essentially consists in forming a tube of annular wire helices enmeshed with each other, inclosing a coiled spring or springs.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a portion of the tube, contracted, partly in section on the line gq of Fig. 3; Fig. 2 shows the samepiece of tube, extended, also partly in section, and Fig. 3 is a cross section thereof. Figs. 4: and 5 are cross sections, showing two other forms of construction.
Referring in the first instance to the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3, a designates a tube formed of flexible wire helices screwed into each other. To serve as a bracelet or the like, this tube forms a closed ring. Within this tube are two coiled springs 6, preferably attached inside at the ends 0. When the tube a has been extended, as shown in Fig. 2, the coiled springs are likewise extended, and serve to contract the tube again when the pull ceases. The wire helices forming the tube a have a'kink or indentation between the two springs b.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 24, 1914..
Serial No. 831,590.
Fig. 4 shows an extensible tube a with a single coiled spring 6 and Fig. 5 shows a tube M, with three coiled springs b and two indentations, between the central spring and the two side springs.
The wires forming the extensible tube may be enmeshed with each other in other Ways than that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and may be plain or ornamented with a pattern.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. The combination, for jewelry purposes, of an extensible tube, formed of a series of annular wire helices enmeshed with each other, and a coiled spring in said tube adapted to contract same.
2. The combination, for jewelry purposes, of an extensible tube, formed of a series of annular wire helices enmeshed with each other, and a plurality of coiled springs in said tube adapted to contract same.
3. The combination, for jewelry purposes, of an extensible tube, formed of a series of annular wire helices enmeshed with each other, and a plurality of coiled springs in said tube adapted to contract same, the wall of said tube being indented between said springs.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH DOPPENSCHMITT.
