GAS-HEATED IRON.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis FELD, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Gas-Heated Irons, of which the following is a specification. Y
My invention relates to sad irons heated by the flame of a gas burner, and consists of a number of details of construction destraight flame projecting well beyond said burner, and at the same'time one that will permit of the ready introduction of a fresh sheet of wire screen should occasion demand.
These and other features of my invention are more fully shown hereinafter, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1, is a sectional elevation of a gas heated sad iron having and containing the improvements forming the subject of my invention, and Fig.2, is a perspective View of the bracket-support for the handle of the same.
In the drawings, 1 represents the body of the sad iron, which may be of any usual construction, and which may have a flame deflector 2 within the same, held in place by a screw 3. A handle 1 is provided, carried by a bracket 5, which may be secured to the body of the iron by a pair of screws 6. The bracket 5 supporting the handle, being of metal and in direct contact with the iron, heats very rapidly, and for the purpose of ventilating the same to as great an extent as possible, I preferably form apertures in the end portions of the bracket, as clearly shown at 7 and 8. The metal of the aperture 7 is entirely removed, whilethe metal of the rear aperture .8 may be pressed up to form asupport 8*, hereinafter described.

As shown, it is' dis-- posed close to the handle of thesad iron 1 so as to be readily operatedby the user when it is desired to disconnect the burner from x the iron, without danger of burning the fingers. v
The shell of the burner 10 forms a chamber 21, the outer wall of which is threaded at 22 to receive a cap sleeve 23-having a flange 24: whereby asheet of wire screen 25, through which the gas passes, may be held in proper place with respect to the burner. By preference,the inner diameter of the "chamber 21 is less than the inner diameter of the flange 24 engaging the edge of the screen. I

Thecombination of an iron having an apertured' rear extension, a handle bracket having an apertured supporting portion, a burner fitting the iron, and a screw for holding said burner in place, said screw being "elongated and passing through the apertured bracket support and being threaded into the rear extension of the iron for engagement with the burner.

4:. The combination of an iron having an aperture in the rear portion of its top, a handle bracket, a handle carried thereby, a burner fitting the iron, and a screw carried by thevhandle bracket for holding said burner in place, said screw being elongated and threaded into the aperture of the iron for engagement with the burner and having its operating end adjacent the handle of the'iron.
5. The combination of an iron having an aperture in the rear portion of its top, a handle bracket, a handle carried thereby, a burner fitting the iron, a screw carried by the handle bracket for holding saidburner in place, said screw being elongated and threaded into the aperture of the iron for engagement with the burner, and a nonheating manipulating element carried by said screw adjacent the handle of the iron.
