Description

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEroE.
EDWARD H. ULLNER, 0F WEST NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY.
WINDOW.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. ULLNER, of Vest New York, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention 'relates more particularlyk to that class of windows which are provided with a pivotal sash frame.
Among other novel features which my invention includes are the following While it is not new to support a window sash frame on pivotal bearings instead of a hinge so that it will swing inward laterally, it is new to provide pivotal bearings, which may be adjustably engaged or detached so thatthe sash frame may be removed from the main frame at will, and these novel features are included within my invention. y
At the lower corner of the sash frame, I provide a pintle, with a projecting pin by which it may be lifted from itssocket; while at the upper corner is a similar pintle, carrying a similar pin. The upper vpintle is retained in operative position by a removable v block, which normally sustains the pintle in place but when the block is removed the pintle drops down, releasing the sash frame.
Having thus described some of the novel features comprised within my invention, I now more particularly describe and specify the same by reference to the accompanying drawings which are illustrative sketches and in which similar lettersand ordinals indicate identical parts.
Figure l is a front elevation of awindow constructed in accordance with my invention, with parts thereof in section. Fig.
2 1s an enlarged view showing the upper pintle retracted. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view thereof taken through the upper pintle.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by similar characters of reference throughout the several views, thenumeral 4 designates generally my improved window which consists of a window frame comprising the vertical side members 5 and upper. and lower horizontal members 6 and 7. The upper and lower windows 8 and 9 are slidable in the removable frame 10, one side of which is provided at its opposite ends Specification of Letters Patent.

with sockets 11 opening inwardly through the side of the frame 10,as shown at `12,
Upper and lower pintles 13 and 111 are slidable in the sockets 11 and each is pro-` 18 for retaining the same in its extended' position, while concealing these said pintles Vand for the purpose to be later. explained. k
A removable block 13 and 1/1 is a removable strip 17 secured to f lthe inner side of the frame 10 at one side thereof. The pintles 13 and 111 when in their extended positions engage the recesses 18 and 19 formed, respectively, in the hori- Zontal members 6 and 7 of the window frame above referred to, obviously pivotally supporting the frame 10 and providing for its removal upon the removal of the block 16 and the retraction of said pintles 18 and la which are operated by grasping the lateral extensions 15 in the fingers and sliding the same inwardly through the openings 12. From the foregoing it will be manifest that a window is provided which will fulfil all the requirements of such a device.
Having thus specified, shown and describedthe same I claim as novel and my invention:
The combination of a window having sockets formed therein, a swinging frame mounted in the window frame and being provided with recesses, pintles slidable in the recesses in the swinging frame into and out of `engagement with the sockets in the window frame, whereby the sash will ber swingingly mounted in said window frame, a block insertible 1n one of the recesses for engagement with the corresponding pintle and retaining the latter in its respectivey i WILSON W. HOOVER, JOSEPH KLEIDMANN.
