STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES T. GERMANY, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HAL! TO ISAAC BLOGH, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
CHANCE DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES T. GERMANY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful lmprovementsin Chance Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to chance devices and the principal object of the invention is the provision of a simple and efficient means for determining winners.
The device essentially consists of a board provided with a plurality of sockets and apertures which are covered with a sheet of suitable frangible material having a concealed circuit communicating with certain of the apertures from their opposite ends, the object being to close the circuit thus sounding a signal by blindly inserting a suitable tool into the socketsand apertures, it of course being understood that the circuit is closed only when the plug is inserted in one of the apertures.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken therethrough. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device with the front board removed. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the tool employed.
Referring more particularly to the draw ing, the device consists essentially in a back board 1 and a front board 2, the latter being provided with a plurality of apertures 3 and 4%., the latter extending entirely through the board and the apertures 3 being in the form of sockets which extend approximately half way through the board. The back board carries a suitable type of buzzer 5 which is connected in circuit with a battery 6 carried in the casing 7 secured to the back board. The battery and buzzer are also connected to a pair of parallel conductors 8 which are arranged, as shown in Fig. 3, upon the back board and exposed through the apertures 4:, as shown in dotted lines at 9 on Fig. 3. This arrangement may be va- Specification of Letters Patent.

ried to extend the conductors across any apertures of the board. By reason of this fact the conductors 8 may be shifted to provide a new combination of electrified apertures every time it is necessary to cover the face of the boardwith a new sheet of frangible material, thus adding to the interest of the game.
Covering the front board is a sheet of some material which may be punctured by a suitable metallic tool, the sheet here shown being shown in the form of a paper sheet 10 having printed rings 11 thereon to correspond with the apertures 3 and 4 in the board. This paper effectually conceals the wires or conductors at the bottom of the apertures 4.
In playing the game, the operator takes a tool, such as is shown in Fig. 4, which consists of an. insulating handle 12 and a metallic punch 13 and forces it through the paper into one of the apertures. If the pin engages one of the apertures 3, nothing happens but it it enters one of the apertures 41. the conductors S will be bridged and the circuit completed through the battery to the buzzer.
What is claimed is A device of the class described compris ing a board having a plurality of sockets and a plurality of through apertures therein, a pair of separate conductors extending across certain of the apertures, a source of current and a signal device connected in the circuit with said conductors, a frangible sheet covering the sockets and apertures and concealing the conductors, an electrically separate metallic tool for punching out the frangible sheet and bridging the conductors, a back plate covering and retaining the conductors in any desired position, and supporting the signal device, and indicia printed on the sheet to show the position of the sockets and apertures.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
