CORNER-POST MOLD. j w
Specification of LettersPatent.
To allwhom imam concern: f A
Be it known that I, Vroron E. BLISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davis, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Lmprovementsin Corner-Post Molds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved mold especially adapted for molding concrete corner posts provided with angularly related'brace wallsand with correspondingly related bases for the brace walls, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and 'arrangement ofdevices hereinafter described and claimed;
The object of my invention is to provide an improved mold comprising separable members which may be readily assembled and disassembled-and by means of-which a concrete corner post having concrete'brace walls may be readily molded in site and at very slight expense.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corner post mold constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line wa of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line bb of Fig. 1. Fig. at is a detail horizontal sectional view of the same on the line'0c of Fig. 1.
My improved corner post mold comprises an outer member 1 and an inner member 2. The outer member has a pair of vertical walls 3 which are arranged atjright angles to each other and are here shown as triangular in form and each provided at its upper corner with a vertical extension 4 and at its outer, horizontal corner with a horizontal extension 5. One of these walls or members is provided at its ertical edge with a batten bar or cleat 6 which is secured thereto by bolts 7. The vertical edge of the companion wall 3 bears against the said batten bar or cleat and is secured thereto by a bolt 7. One of the said walls 3 is also provided at a suitable distance from its vertical edge with openings 8. Each of the said walls is provided on its outer side with a batten bar 9, which is inclined, extends from the horizon tal extension 5 to the vertical extension 4 and is secured in place by bolts 10. The walls of the member 1 vare here shown as composed of horizontally arranged boards but, in practice, the said member may be post-forming walls 11 which are arranged at right angles to each other, secured together, andwhenthe moldis assembled form a reentrant angle in the angle between the converging vwalls of the member 1. Each of p I Patented Oct. 20, 1914. Application filed May 25, 1912.. Serial No. 699,734.
made ofa'ny suitable material as may also these walls llis provided, in the side next oneof the walls3 with a vertical opening 12 which extends from the lower end thereof to the lower side of the vertical extension 4 of said wall 3 and cor'responds in width with the desired width of the brace walls of the molded post. MA'pair of base walls 13 are arranged at right angles to each other and conlverge'tothe, angle between the walls 11, are securedtogether at their converging ends and are also secured to the lower ends of the said walls 11 and on each of the said base walls is a cover 14 which extends across one of the walls 11 at the lower end of the latter, the lower sides of the covers being level with the lower edges of the walls 11 and the base walls 13 extending downwardly from and being respectively in line with the respective walls 11, as shown. These covers and base walls are of such length that their outer ends are coincident with those of the horizontal extensions 5 of the walls of the member 1 and each cover has an opening 15 corresponding in width with the openings 12 and extending out to the inner ends of the extensions 5. Cleats 16-17 are secured, respectively, on the outer sides of the walls 11 and covers 14 and are spaced a suitable dis tance from the openings 12-45 and form flanges which are adapted to be engaged by the vertical and base edges of triangular walls 18 which are associated with the member 2, are detachable therefrom and when in place are parallel with the walls 3 of the member 1 and coact with the triangular portions of'said walls 3 to form molds or mold chambers for the brace walls of the post.
' End boards 19 arefitted between the outer ends of the extensions 5 and the base walls 3 13 and under'the covers 14 and are detachably held in place by bolts 20 which connect the outer ends ofthe brace walls and those of the extensions 5, these end walls forming the gular walls 18 are-here shown as formed of vertically arranged boards secured together by bars 21 which are fastened on their outer sides near their upper edges. I also provide a pair of edge boards 22 which are adapted to lie on the upper edges of the walls 3 and detachable walls 18 and tobe secured thereto by means of nails or othersuitabledevicesand the said edge boards serve to mold and form the inclined edges of the brace walls of the corner post.
The vertical extensions lof-the Walls 3 of the member 1 and the upper ends of the Walls 11 of the post forming portion of the mold are detachably secured together by means of a U-shaped bolt 23 and a, bar 24 which is secured on the threaded ends ofzthe a arms of said bolt by means of nuts :25. .It
will be understood that by first'removing the U-shaped bolt 23 and also removing the bolts 20, the inner and outer member-sot the mold may be separatedand, hence, removed from a molded corner post and its brace walls after said post and walls have been formed.
I claim The herein described corner post .mold
comprising an outer member and an inner member; said outer member having a pair of angularly related side Walls, said inner member being arranged in the angle between the side walls of the outer member and comprisinga pair of vertical angularly related base Walls, covers on the base walls, a pair of singularly related post formlng Walls 1n the angle between and at right angles to the walls of the outer member and also extendsecure the outerand inner members together.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature in presence oftwo witnesses VICTOR E. BLISS. Witnesses:
