In carrying out the invention it is con-- templated to provide suitable clutch mecha-A nisms,l one to control movement of the carriage and bucket in one direction along the supporting boom, and the other to control movement of said parts in an opposite direction on the boom, said mechanisms being manually operable and associated with the stop mechanism hereinbefore mentioned, which methanism comprises essentially a device adapted to be .moved by means on the carriage when the latter reaches a-predetermined point in its travel onthe boom. The said 'movable -device under automatic actuation of the carriage is capable-of shifting the clutch mechanisms which control the movement of the carriage, intoa neutral l position, the travel of the carriagel and bucket being thus discontinued.
The automatic stop means is peculiarly designed in that the movable member or device which is operated by the `carriage is of somewhat umbrella-like shape so that while it moves up and down and in opposite sidedirections, with the boom when the latter is adjusted, it nevertheless is always ting sleeve keyed to the shaft 12.

Bolted or otherwise rigidlyl fixed to the upright framing 7 is a forwardly extendingV bracket 28 having an outstanding bearing plate 29 on which is mounted the inner bearling end of a boom 30, the saidbearing end ofA the boom being provided with a worm gear 31 meshingwith a worm. 32 fixed to,a shaft 433 journaled inbracket 28and carrying a hand wheel 34 for enabling manual swinging ofthe boom horizontally about its vertical axis, the said boom being pivotally connected `to the bracket 28 by a -pivot bolt 35 extending through the bearing plate of the boom and the bearing` plate of the bracket. Boom 30preferably consists of an I-beam, as clearly seen in Fig. 2, the inner or rear end of the beam being ixed to a cast-- erablygrooved. The cable 22 extends from one side of pulley 23 downwardly and about pulley 36 and thence forwardly or outwardly to the outer end of the boom and is there passed about a guiding pulley 39 jour'naled in a bracket casting 40 fixed to the outer end of the I-beam, the cable extending thence inwardly along the under edge of the I-beam to and being passed about the-pulley 38 and thence about the pulley 37 into substantial 'e alinement with pulley 23 and thence upwardly to and about the pulley 23. The cable 22 -maythus be endless in its nature but, as hereinafter pointed out, an ordinary cable is employed having its ends fixed to a moving shuttle to be described.

f` in which are slidingly mounted guiding bars 43, 43, to the upper ends of which is fixed a shield or actuating member 44 of somewhat umbrella-like shape. As best seen in Fig. 3, the member 44 extends'beneath the link 19,
and fixed -to link 17 is an angular arm 45 whose horizontal arm overhangs the member 44, and the free end of said horizontal arm is provided with a pin or bolt 46 adjustable vertically into position` for being engaged by the member when the free end of arm is lowered, whereby, when the member is elevated into contact with said lever the arm 45 and connected parts are adaptedfto be thrown thereby to the neutral position, as hereinafter set forth.

upper ends of arms 52 to lie at one side of the vertical plane of the axis of shaft 51 while the lower end of link section 54 lies at the same side of said plane, and an intermediate portion of the link section engages the sleeve 52 at the other side of said plane, arms 52 being thus held by weight against movement in one direction and being positively held-by the engagement of link section 54 with sleeve 52 against movement in the other direction.'
The shaft 51 extends beyond the trolley carriage 47 at one side and the extension of the shaft carries a trip arm 56 which is limited in the amount of its swing by stops 56', 56 outstanding laterally from carriage 47. As best seen in Fig. 2, the guiding bars 43 are provided, each on its inner face, with plates l7, 4, 74 whose lower edges terminate above the lower guiding eyes 42, and rearwardly extending arms 7 5 project from and are fixed to carriage 47 and have their inner or rear ends tapered, as at 76,- for forming cams adapted to pass beneath the lower edges ofthe plates74 for elevating the saine and correspondingly elevating all the connected parts, with the result that the shield 44 is elevated when `the carriage 47 y is moved inwardly from the position seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1 to the position seen in full lines therein, the upward movement imparted to the shield being suiiicient for elevating the free end of the Aangular arm` on reference to Fig'. 2 wherein it will be noted that to cause nthe inward movement of the bucket 50 on the boom the lever 20 will have been pulled to the right, this. action necessarily causing a slight vlowering of the inner arm of the lever 45 to assumethe dotted line position illustrated in said figure. The raising of the device 44, owing to the impingement ofthe parts -75 with the parts 43, causes the member 44 to engage the screw 46 of the member 45, thereby elevating the inner arm of the latter and causing a rocking leftward of the links 17, 18 and 19'until the clutches assume their neutral position, thus disconnecting .the drive from the carriage and permitting the latter to come to a stop with the bucket 50 beneath the'chute 3 ready to be recharged with another load of mixed materials. It is to be observed from the structure illustrated that outward movement of the carriage is'adapted tobe controlled by manual The outer or tree end of the boom 30may be sustained 4in various well known and conventional ways, but by preference the framework 7 pivotally sustains a pair of links 77 in the free ends of which i's journaled a pulleyv 78, preferably of the groove type, about which is passed a sustaining cable 79,
one end of which cable is fixed toa casting 80. which latter is fixed to the forward portion of the b'oom 30. A windless 81 is sustained by casting 80 and the opposite end of cable 79 from that fixed'to the casting is attached to the windless so that a portion of' the cable is adapted to be taken up or paid out according to the elevation desired for the boom 30, the 4windlass being provided with a ratchet wheel 82 engaged by a pawl' 83 adapted for sustaining the boom in a given adjusted position. A hand wheel 84 or other `suitable operating meansv may be provided for actuating the windlass.
In operation, the parts being in the position indicated in full lines in F ig. 1, as the .drum l isv rotated, the requisite charge of` concrete or other matter to be delivered is discharged through'chute 3 into bucketr50 and thereupon the operator throws the lever "O inwardly or toward the left as viewed in Fig. 2, the direction for lhauling' in on the portion 'of cable 22 aboveboom 30 and paying out whereupon the sheave 21 is rotated in the other-portion thereof, whereby the cari doors of the bucket 50 remaining open dur` ing the return` movement of the carria until the boss 58 engages cam 59 and causes the arm 56 to elevate the connected parts .and thus close the doors. The final closing movement of the doors of the bucket is accomplished as the carriage 47 reaches its position shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and simultaneously for all practical purposes the .stop member. or shield 44 is raised so as to act on the parts 17,. 18, 19 and 45 to neutralize the clutches and stopthe movement of the carriage.
It will be observed that the arrangement.
of the trip arm 59 is such that when the carriage 47 is at the inner limit of itsmovement on the boom 30, the means controlling the openings ofthe bucket 50vis locked from operation. 'In other words, in the normal position ofthe parts of the apparatus, during the process of filling the bucket 50 from the. mixer 1, the members 5G and 59 so abut with one another that there is no liability of 'accidental opening of the bucket since the engagement intermediate the partev 56 and 59 is practically a locking relation until the carriage 47 moves outwardly suiiiciently to separate the parts 56 and 59.
Since the'boom 30 is movable vertically byl raising or lowering its outer end, and likewise` alapted for lateral or horizontal movement, it will be apparent that the member 44 must necessarily be sufficiently large, that, irrespective of whatever position is assumed bythe boom on which the member 44 is supported, said member will be adapted to impinge the screw 46 on the arm 45 for a proper operation of the stop mechanism. It is for this reason that the umbrella-like shape for the member 45 is found most satisfactory, being such that the same relative positions `of the parts 44 and 46 are maintained whatever'position the boom 30 assume.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. The combination, with a boom and a trolley carriage therefor, of a cable for actuatingthe carriage, a sheave for driving said cable, oppositely disposed clutches lfor actuating the sheave, a lever for throwing the clutches, a cam on the carriage, and
means actuated by the cam for shifting the lever to a neutral position on the return movement of the carriage.
2. In means of the class described, the
Vcf'nnbination of a support, a boom mounted for horizontal swinging movement on said support, a carriage movable longitudinally of the boom, operating mechanism for shifting the carriage along-the boom, a. controlling device `for stopping and starting said operating mechanism, automatic stop means operable by the carriage at a predetermined point in the movement of the latter on the boom to actuate said controlling device to stop said operating mechanism, and connections intermediate said stop means and the boom for maintaining the stop means in operative vrelation to the contiollingdevice irrespective of whatever'position is assumed by the boom. l
3. The combination, with aboom and a carriage movably mounted thereon, .of a.
cable for actuating the carriage,-a sheave `for driving the cable, clutch-'and gear mechanism for driving the sheave, a lever for controllingthe clutch mechanism, an angular arm connected withsaid lever and having -an outstanding arm, a shield extending beneath the planes of the outstanding arm, means supporting and guiding said shield, and cams on the carriage extending inwardly therefrom and adapted to engage the supporting means of the shield for elevating the same when the carriage arrives at its innermost position on the boom, the shield being positioned for striking the outstanding arm of the angular arm when the shield is elevated for moving the connected parts to a position releasing the clutch.
4. In means of the class described, the combination of a Supporting framework, av
boom mounted thereon, means whereby the boom may be swung in a horizontal plane, a carriage movable lengthwise of the boom, cable drlving means connected with the carriage to shift the same back and forth on the boom, a controlling'device for said cable driving means, and automatic stop means on the boom comprising a vertically movable member operable by the carriage to be Aengaged with said controlling device. to thereby aifect the` operation of the cable driving means.

means to move theboom on the framework, a carriage movable along said boom, an actuating cable connected with said carriage, means for operating said cable and thereby communicating movement to the carriage,
and a stop device operable by the carriage the carriage for moving said stop device.
into cooperation with the said controlling members whereby to render the operating means inactive at a predetermined point in the movement of the carriage.
7 In combination, a boom, a carriage adapted to travel therealong, a stop device located adjacent to said boom, an actuating cable for the carriage, operating means for said cable, and means intermediate the carriage and the said stop device whereby to move the latter at a predetermined time to render inactive the cable ope ating means.

'In combination, a carriage, a support on which said carriage is adapted to travel, an actuating cable for driving the carriage, operating means for said cable, a stop device situated near the carriage support, and means intermediate thelcarriage and stop device for causing movement of the latter at a predetermined point in the travel of the carriage to render the cable operating means inactive.

In combination, a support, a boom movably mounted on said support, a carriage movable along the boom, cable means connected with the carriage for actuatingA the same, driving mechanism for said cable, control means for the latter to discontinue its operation, and a member on the boom movable with the latter to its adjustedpositions and adapted in any position to coact with said control means for operating the latter.
13. In meansof the class described, the combination of a supporting framework, a boom mounted thereon, means whereby the boom may be swung in a horizontal plane,
a carriage movable lengthwise of the boom, y
cable driving means connected with the car- -riage to shift the same back and forth on the boom, a controlling device for said cable driving means, automatic stop means on the boom comprising a vertically movable meme ber operable by the carriage to 'be engaged with said controlling device to thereby vaffect the operation of thecable driving means,
and connecting meanslsupporting said stop member for vertical movement on the boom and maintaining the same 1n operative relation to the controlling device in whatever position the boom may be adjusted.
14. In a machine of the class described, the combination of a support, a boom mounted on the support for horizontal swinging movement, a vertically slidable stop member carried by the inner end of the boom, a carriage on the boom, driving mechanism for moving said carriage back and 4forth along the boom, a controlling device for said driving mechanism arranged adjacent to said stop member, and means on the carriage capable of engagement with the stop member 'when the carriage reaches a predetermined point in the length of the boom, whereby the operation of tl'e driving means is controlled from the carriage in any position assumed by the boom.
