SPINNING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented 0013.13, 1914. Appiication filed March 27, 1914. serial No, `$27,527.
To 4all whom it maycQncem Be it known that I WILLIAM HARTinY, a subjecty of the Kingvof Great Britain, citizen of Leicester, England, residing at Bond street, Leicester, in ythe county of Leicester, England, have invented new and useful lni-l provements in or ...y-Relating to Spinningwhich the following is a specication. l z
, This invention relates to spinning machines .and more especially to flier spinning frames, thel object being,k to provide simple and etlicient means for preventing displacement of the washers lfromthe lifter plate when the bobbins are doied. The `said means may, and preferably do also serve to separate the bobbins fromthe washers prior tothe removal ofthe bobbins or the lowering of the lifterrplate from bobbins.V As is known, when the bobbins are raised from the lifter plate or the latter is lowered from the bobbins during the operation` OfdOiing,
there is a tendency for the washersfcarried by the Alifter plate and through which the spindlesalsopass-to cling or stick to the end of the bobbin with thefresult thatjsaid washers are sometimes accidentally removed with the bobbins or are displaced thereby necessitating, expenditure of time tov locate them on the lifter plate again. v To A prevent this, the-present invention providesineans which are adapted to `be brought into engagement or contact with the washers prior to the bobbins being dotted, said means serv,-
r prises a series of devices arranged to be,`
ing to hold the washers in placeon the lifter plate when the bobbins are raised therefrom or during the operation of dofing when the vlifter plate is lowered from the bobbins and` spindles `as in a lmachine where the bobbins are removed from the bottom endsof the spindles.
In its simplest form, the invention combroughtinto interposition between the bobbins and washers to hold the Vlatter on the lifter plate. These interposing devicesr are preferably specially shaped or formed to also effect separation of the bobbins from the washers. The-said devices maybe actuated individually or in unison but by preference they are all moved together. e
vIn further describing the invention, reference `will bemadefto the accompanying drawing which illustrates a practical emvapplied to the spindles of a flier spinning machine of the ftype wherein the bobbins of the spindles.
a perspective view of part of a rlifter plate isa similar view to Fig.v yl and shows the washer holding devices inoperat-ion. Figs.
ing the lifter. plate and washer' holdingdesectionof the lifter plate.` Fig. 'is aplan S yaresimilar views to Figs'.y land 2 and f show a slightly modied forniofthe washer holding means. Figf9 illustrates a detailed feature hereinafterfdescribed. e Like parts are designated by the saine refdrawing.-v .y ,A

Figs. 7,andj
erence lcharacters in alltheiiguresof ionky f side of the washers@` asshownin Figs. 2 and `4t, in which positionsaid plates `1l ywill hold the washers down in the recesses 6 and prevent them rising with the bobbins when the latter are lifted, or sticking to the bobbins when the lifter plate is lowered from the bobbins.
n The lifter plate b need not be recessed if the transverse plates l are arranged to stand above the lifter plate the thickness of the washers a, but it is preferable that sa-id holder plates l should lie flat on the lifter plate in which case the washers require to be sunk as previously described.
Each holder plate 1 has a thin edge 7 so that when moved to the operative position it will be able to force its way between the washer a and bobbin d. By forming the plates l with thickened centers and with a rounded upper surface as shown 'they will, when penetrating between the washers a and bobbins d, raise the latter by the entrance of the thick part under the ends of the bobbin as shown inFig. a, thus elfecting a separation of the bobbins and their Washers prior to the dofling operation.
`vThe bearings 3 (see Figs. 5 and 6i) are conveniently of the'block type and attached to theu'nderside of the lifter plate Y) by screws 8.
Any suitable means such as pins and slots lmay be made use of to limit the travel of the slide bars 2 and plates l in each direction..
In an alternative arrangement (Figs. 7 and 8) theslide bar 2 on each side of the lifter plate b has independent holding plates 9 and is capable of movement in any opposite direction to the other to bring the holding plates into position over the washers on opposite sides of the spindles as shown in Fig. S. In this construction each washer is held down at two diametrically.oppositepoints, the slide bars 2 being movable independently, or they may as shown be coupled together and actuated simultaneously by a member common to both (for example by a handle or lever' 10) `movable about a fulcrum 1l located intermediate ofthe two slide bars 2. In this construction each holder plate 9 is attached rigidly to its slide rod. Y
The holder plates may be shaped as shown at l2 in Fig. 9 to extend partly around the spindles so that when occupying the operative position they may be located well over the faces of the washers;
Claims. 1

2. In a spinning machine, in combination, a bobbin lifter plate, washers carried thereby, and means adapted to separate the washers and bobbins prior to the dotling of the .a bobbin lifter plate, washers carried thereby by which the bobbins are supported, and a series of devices one for each washer) arranged to be brought into interposition between the bobbins and said washers to hold the 'latter upon the lifter plate when saidV plate andbobbins are separated for doftng the bobbins, and means for effecting a simultaneous movement of said devices to and from the operative position.
5. In a spinning machine having a bobbin lifter plate and washers carried thereby, the combination with the lifter plate of a series of transverse plates (one for each washer) extending over the lifter plate, a slide bar supported by the lifter plate and to which said` transverse plates are attached, said bar being movable longitudinally to bring the transverse plates yinto and lout of position over the washers, for the purpose described.
6 In a spinning machine having a bobbin lifter plate and washers carried thereby, the combination with the lifter plate of a series of transverseplates (one for each washer) extending over the lifter plate, slide bars supported by and situated one on each side of the lifter plate and to which said transverse plates are attached to each end, said bars being movable longitudinally to bring the transverse plates into and out of position overthe washers,- for the purpose described.
7. In a spinning machine having a bobbin lifter plate and washers carried thereby, the combinationwith the lifter plate of a series o-f transverse plates (one for each washer) extending over the lifter plate slide bars situated one on each side of the lifter plate and towhich said ltransverse plates are attached at each end, bearings on the lifter plate supporting said slide bars, and means to couple said slide bars together rigidly so that when actuated they move longitudinally in company for 'the purpose described.
