METAL RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 21, 1913.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
Serial No. 762,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE VIARD, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Bron, Rhone, in France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to metal receptacles, and more particularly to receptacles made of aluminum, on which handles, feet or the like cannot be fixed by solder.
Figure l is an elevation of the handle before being fixed to the receptacle and shows the faces of the parts of the handle to be fixed to the receptacle turned forward. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the receptacle part of the handle and receptacle being shown broken away and in section.
The parts a and b of the handle to be fixed to the receptacle 0 are each pierced with a hole 6 and cl but they could comprise a greater number of holes made at desired spots in order to make the joint more solid. During the manufacture of the receptacle, the handle is maintained in the mold in such a way that at the time of casting, the parts a and b are embedded in the mass of fused metal. It will be understood that during casting the holes 6 65 will become filled with molten metal, which when cool forms small ties f g integral with the receptacle 0 and traversing the parts a; and b.
The part of the handle or the like to be embedded in the cast metalshould comprise a projection such as h Fig. 2, so as to form a recess for the molten metal so that when the casting is finished, the metal of the receptacle will be flush with the surface of the handle. It results that the said handle is absolutely integral with the object to which it has been applied and that the points of junction, no fissure joint or projection is present, which might allow the introduction of foreign matters, which is a very great advantage with respect to cooking, labratory or the like receptacles.
hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In combination, a cast metal receptacle, a metal handle, and lugs on said handle embedded in the cast metal of which said receptacle is formed, said handle being provided with shoulders adjacent said lugs whereby the cast metal surrounding said lugs will abut said shoulders and the outer surface of'the receptacle will be flush with the'surface of the handle.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
