T 0 an whom it may concern Be it known that l, OswALo BEAUMONT CARSON, a citizen of the United States, rcsiding at Southbridge, in the county of \Vorcester and State of l/lassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Goggles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to i nprovements in goggles, and has particular reference to an improved type of goggle which may be readily folded u to carry in the pocket when not in use.

A further object of my invention is the provision of a {toggle which shall be provided with rest for emragring, the sides of the nose and removing the usual disagreeable pressure from the bridge of the nose.

Another object of my invent on is the provision of an improved folding goggle which may be readily and inexpensively constructed and in which the various parts ill be so constructed and braced to prevent damaging of the lenses or distortion of the various parts of the goggle when the same is in folded position.

Other objects and advantages of my improved goggle should be readily apparent by reference to the following description talren in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will be understood that I may make any modifications in the specific details of construction'shown and described within the scope of the appendedclaims without departing from or exceeding the spirit of my invention.

In the drawings, in which similar characters of reference are em ployed to denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 designates the eye wires in which are mounted the usual lenses 2 which may be of plain or colored glass, as desired, While secured to the outer portions l of the eye wires 1 are the end pieces 3, to

l which are pivoted the temples 4. for securing the goggle in position on the face. Although in most of the views I have shown the goggle as equipped with temples, it will be noted that in Fig. H, I have shown the the place of the temples 4:.

I have shown as suitably secured to the eye wire 1 near the upper inner portion thereof, the arm 6 which has the bend 7 formed therein to forwardly offset the portion 8 of the bridge, said portion 8 having the curled ears 9 for embracing the pintle 10, which serves to pivotally connect the parts 8 on opposite sides of the goggle. Carving rearwardly and downwardly from the portion 8 forming the bridge of my goggle is a second arm 11 which is also secured to the eye wire 1..

in certain of the forms of my invention 1 have shown this arm 11 ascontinued in the loop formed therein and terminating in the guard 13 which has at its lower end the ear ll also secured to the eye wire 1. It will be observed that in this form of the inven' tion the bridge has its central portions *8 offset relative to the lenses 1 and adapted to engage each other as the eyeglas es are folded to hold said lenses out of contact and prevent cracking thereof by forcing of the same together, while the guards beingbraced at both their i.ppe' and lower ends are so supported as to prevent distortion or ac idental mashing, of the same. It will be understood that if desired the guards and bridge may be made separate from each other as is illustrated in Fig. Vii, t 'iis,oonstruction being similar to the preceding views except in this particular. portion 12 having a i versely extending gle should be readily apparent to all, and it I will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive, durable and eflicient folding l goggle which -may be readily constructed and which is so constructed as to comfort,- ably lit the nose of the wearer to rest on the fleshy portions of the nose and prevent undue and uncomfortable pressure on the bridge portion of the nose and which when folded is so constructed as to prevent accii dental contact of the lenses which would otherwise tend to crack the same.

I claim:

1. A guard for the purpose described, i comprising a bearing portion having an arm integral therewith at the'upper end;

' thereof, said arm extending rearwardly and then reversely forwardly from the guard to engage a lens attachment, the guard being further provided with a forwardly offset portion at the lower end thereof. having its terminal portion secured to a lens attachment, substantially as described A blank for a goggle bridge and nose piece comprising a central portion having ears for engaging a hinged pintle, a'pair of arms extending to the opposite side of the central portion from that on which the ears are located, one of said arms being of length to engage a lens attachment, and the other of said arms being of considerably greater length to permit of looping or reverse bending thereof, a guard depending from said second arm, and'an offset attaching portion disposed at the lower ends .of said guard, substantially as described.

3. A blank for a goggle bridge and nose piece comprising a bridge portion having. ears for engaging a hinge pintle, a pair of arms projecting from said bridge portion and each arm being adapted to be secured to a lens, one of said arms being con-tinned beyond its point of attachmentto the lens, 1 a guard carried by said arm. and a proJection on the guard also adapted for attachment to the lens.

4:. A combined bridge and nose piece for a goggle comprising a central portion adapted to engage a hinge pintle. rearwardly xtending arms integral with the central portion and attached to the lens. one of said arms continuing beyond the lens in a reversely looped portion, and a guard carried by said reversely looped portion.
