JOSEPH BALOGH ANI) ANDREW' THOMAS, Oli* CANAANVILLE, OHIO.
IEEE-BOAT.
To @ZZ 107mm t may concern:
Be it known that we, JosnPi-I BALoei-r and ANDnnw THOMAS, subjects of the King of lflungary, residing at Canaanville, in the county of Athens and State of Chio, have invented certain new and useful lniproveinents in Lifte-Boats, of which the following is a specification.
rthis invention relates to certain new and useful iniprovenients in life boats.
An object of the invention is to provide a life boat in which the entire hull lconstitutes an air chamber and wherein the top wall of the air chamber forms the deck for the passengers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lite boat in which the seats are disposed adjacent tne side edges of the deck and arranging hand hold devices centrally ot the deck between the rows of seats.
lilith the above and other objects in view which will appear as 'the nature or" the invention better understood, the saine consists in the novel construction and arrangenient of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing by like characters throughout the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a sideelevational view of our boat. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the saine, and Fig. 3 is an end elevational view.
Referring` incre specifically to the drawing7 the reference numeral 10 designates the side walls of our boat and 11 the top wall or deck. lt to be noted that the space between the side walls 10 and top 11 consti tutes an air chamber which holds the boat always in a buoyant position. The top wall 11 has a slight upward inclination from its connection with the side walls 10 to the longitudinal axis orp the boat, which center line torins the highest part of the deck. Suitable r: locks 12 are carried by the sides of the boat and receive the usual oars 13 by which the boat is propelled.
rl`wo rows of seats 1&1- are mounted upon the deck 11, one row upon either side oi the center line thereof and substantially raid-way of the sides. Arranged centrally of the deck are the seats 15 which are to be used by the crew and positioned relative to the crew seats 15 are the boat holds 16. The

upper deck 11 is provided with an ordinary railing 17 which completely surrounds the saine. 4
Hand hold mea-ns are provided and are designated in general 1S, to be gripped by the passengers should the boat encounter a rough sea. rlhese hand hold devices coinprise more specifically the vertical shafts 19 connected by a longitudinal shaft 20, and
it is to be noted that these hand hold devices are disposed centrally of the upper deck and between the two rows of seats.r Depending 'troni the longitudinal shafts 20 are the hand grips 21.
Our boat is provided with a keel 22 which is hingedly connected to the bottom of the boat as at n3 and is further provided with rudder 2e.
Freni the above description of our invention, it will be evident that by forming the entire hull structure of a buoyant body, that the saine will always remain afloat and that by constructing the top wall or deck 11 with an inclination toward the center line thereof'5 that any water that inay .splash thereon willreadily run off. It is further evident that by positioning the hand hold devices along the longitudinal axis of the boat intermediate of the several rows of seats, that the saine may be readily gripped by the passengers.
l'li/vhile we have shown and described the preferred elnbodiinent of our invention, we do not wish to conne ourselves thereto various modifications and arrangements of parts may be had without departing from the spirit and scopev oi the invention as claimed.
What we claini as new is A life boat comprising a buoyant hull, the deck oi' said boat forming the top wall of the hullj said deck inclined upwardly toward the longitudinal axis thereof, seats arranged along the yinclined sides of the deck, and hand hold devices arranged along the longitudinal anis of the boat.
ln testimony whereolZ we aiiizr our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH BALOGl-l. ANDREV THOMAS. 1illitnesses liar GAsroN, CHARLES NEWMAN.
