Description

A A, Z. EGLER,
CIRCUIT WIRE TERMINAL.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.11,1913.
Patented Sept. 29, 1m,
is quite thin saidscrew v Application filed Augustl provemen't' in Circuit-Wire Terminals, of
which the following is a specification.
Certain for s of circuit-wire terminals heretofore ma d e consists of plates having means at one or both ends for connection therewith of one or more circuit-wires, and
having minal for connection therewith of a circuitwire' consists of a b inding-screw. which extendsthrough a screw-threadedhole in the end-portion of the plate, and as the plate has but a short bearing and easily becomes loosened. Furthermore, such a; terminal is liable to turn on its attaching-screw and thereby engage adjacent terminals or objects, causing electrical troubles, also produces a strain on the circuit-wires and their connections .with the terminal.
-This invention relates to improvements in circuit-wire terminals of this type,-and conthreaded walls thereof;
sists in providing one end-portion ofthe attacbirig-pr-rtion of the plate-with an overturned portion, and forming screw-threaded holes respectively in said overturned portion and the attaching-portion, which are ar ranged in alinement', and employing a binding-screw, 'inade; long enough to extend through. both holes and jto engage the and preferably long enough to 'projecta short distance be. low thejbottom of the attaching-portion of the plate to enter a hole in the support to which the'terminal is attached, thereby insuring a long'bearing for the binding-screw to prevent it from becoming easily loosened,
and also to preventthe. terminal from turning on the attaching-screw. As the inven tion involves essentiall one end of the plate only the other end thereof may be fprovided with any form ofcircuit-wire connection or may be devoid of a circuitwire connection.
Figure'l, is-a side elevation of a circuitwire terminal illustrating one embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2, is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional detail of one end-portion of the terminal.
The terminal consists of an elongated plate of any suitable length and width, but
usually made of sheet metal. It has a sub- ZrEeLnn, 5

The end-portion 15 of the plate is here shown as for the connection therewith of a circuit wire, but, so far as my-im entlon is conbe provided with any other usu form of circuit-wire connection, devoid of means for connecting a circuita wire therewith. The the plate is bent upward and. inward as at attaching portion.
receive a bindingshank of which is made long enough to extend through both threaded holes 22 and 23', and also to project below the flat attaching-portion for a short distance. portion of the plate may be made slightly flexible or resilient, at least enough so to enable it to be bent slightly inorder that' the binding-screw, while turning in the hole 22 may be caused to enter case the parallel arranged not be correctly disposed t salt to be otherwise accom resiliency is of advantage in preventing the binding-screw from becoming loosened.
The projecting end-portion of the shank of the binding-screw is adapted to enter a hole in the back-board or' support to which the terminal is attached, thus' to hold'the portions should 0 enable this re,
screw is insufficient.
