ANDREW J. COMPTON, OIiTRENTON, NEW JERSEYQ Be it known-that I, ANDREW a. citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer andState, of New Jersey, have invented new anduseful T Improvements in Concrete Posts and Simi lar St'ructures, of which the following is a 1 described and claimed. p .3111 theaccompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a reinforced concrete post constructedin accordance With {my invention. Fig.2 is a transverse sec reinforcing bar. Referring first t0 the form of my inven tionshown in Fig. 1 the postl, which is made. of concrete, is formed in a suitable -mold and is provided with a reinforcing CONCRETE POST AND SIMILAR STRUCTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept.'22, 1914.
" Application filedkugust 15, 1913. 7 Serial No. 784,979.
To alljwho'm, it mdy concem: I j v q J. COMPTON,
specification.
- This invention relates to improvements in concrete structures and especially with reference to the provision of a novel reinforc Y f ing element ,'adapted' [to be embedded in a"- concrete structurela's hereinafter more fully tionalview of the same. Fig. his a detail elevation ofthe reinforcing bar. Fig. 4 is a detail transverse sectional view of said bar 2 which is embedded in the center thereof and is made of steel or iron. This bar comprises radially arranged'webs 3, three of such webs being preferably provided and eachweb is composed of a series of wings 45 j the outer edges of which are curved so that Copies of this patent may be obtained for the said wings .are substantially scallop shaped or semi-circular. in form and the said wings are arranged at a slight angle to the axis of the bar so that their contiguousends are out of line with each other and hence the wings by reason of such slightly oblique arrangement cause keys to be formed in the concrete of which 'the post is composed and jlation to those of the adjacent series as shown. This reinforcing barmay also be embedded 1n curbing or in other concrete structures of similar character to reinforce the same.
I claim: r 1. A concrete structure having a reinforcing element provided with webs composed of semi-circular wingsarranged obliquely to the aXis of said reinforcing element and with their contiguousends arranged out of line with each other whereby spaces are formed between adjacent offsets to form bonding refcesses for the concrete.
2. A concrete structure having a reinforcing element provided with webs composed of wings arranged obliquelyto the axis of said reinforcing element and with their contiguous ends out p of I line with each other whereby spaces are formed between adjacent ofisets to formbonding recesses for the concrete, the said webs being angularly related with reference to one another.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
