Iv; (clear, and exact description of the invention, f
such as will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventionrelates to 'npw and useful im rovements-in door checks, and particuif lar y that 155 'f out of operative means not come into engagement with the door to the device y the operators foot scraping 'A A further object is to improve the general 1s outermost when the pawl is in raised poclass which is provided with resilient means for holding the same in and ppsition. The o ject of t is invention resides in the provision of a door check which is provided w'ith resilient means for hol the same m and out of engagement and w 'ch 'is provided with means operable bythe foot for mo the check to operative position said meing so positianed that the foot: cancause dama resulting in continued use of against the door when the check is operated.
eiciency and simplicity of devices of this character.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention residesin the novel combination formation and arran ement of arts more full hereinafter escribed, i ustrated in t e accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanfying drawings, wherein similar characters o re erence designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whichz-x Fi e 1 is a vertical sectional view showing t e pawl resiliently held in ino erative position on a door. lFi 2 is a sim' ar viewv showing the pawl resiliently held in operative position. to limit the movement o the door in one direction. Fig. 3 isa frontA elevation of the device in the position shown in ings, 5 designates a portion o eferring more particularly having alininl openings formed in their outer ends. i he floor engagement member com rises a awl 8 having preferably a pad of high frictlon material 9 at one end thereof. lTo the other end of the pawl are fastened a pair of plates 10 which extend past the said endand are provided adjacent their outer extremities with laterally and outwardly extended pintles 11 which are journaled in the openings of the lugs 7 thus providing a pivotal connection for the pawl. To provide means for resiliently holding the pawl in floor engaging or raised position, a retractile spring 12 is provided, having one of its extremities secured to the body of the bracket 6 and its other extremity secured to the end of the pawl between the two plates. It will be seen, that when the pawl is in raised position the force of the sprin will be exerted above the pivotal point and that when the pawl is in lowered postion the force of the spring will be exerted vlow the pivotal point. By providing the plates 10, the s ring is permitted to swmg'between the pivo al 'oints of the device.
In or er that the device may be actuated from raised to lowered position, a lug 13 is rovided on that face of the pawl 8 which sition. When the foot of the operator is placed on the lug to swin the pawl downwardly, it will be observed the foot will only engage the adjacent face of the pawl and that therefore all danger of damagin the door by`\ striking the foot thereagainst is obviated.
- What `is claimed is- A door check comprising a vertically disposed bracket including a pair of outwardly extending' parallel spaced lugs, a pawl having one end bifurcated, outwardly extending p'ntles on the ends of said furcations journ led'in the outer ends of the lugs and a retractile spring having one end secured to the Abracket and the other end secured to the pawl between the furcations.
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature, in the presenceof two witnesses.
