With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention residesin the novel combination formation and arran ement of arts more full hereinafter escribed, i ustrated in t e accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

Fig. 3 isa frontA elevation of the device in the position shown in ings, 5 designates a portion o eferring more particularly having alininl openings formed in their outer ends. i he floor engagement member com rises a awl 8 having preferably a pad of high frictlon material 9 at one end thereof. lTo the other end of the pawl are fastened a pair of plates 10 which extend past the said endand are provided adjacent their outer extremities with laterally and outwardly extended pintles 11 which are journaled in the openings of the lugs 7 thus providing a pivotal connection for the pawl. To provide means for resiliently holding the pawl in floor engaging or raised position, a retractile spring 12 is provided, having one of its extremities secured to the body of the bracket 6 and its other extremity secured to the end of the pawl between the two plates. It will be seen, that when the pawl is in raised position the force of the sprin will be exerted above the pivotal point and that when the pawl is in lowered postion the force of the spring will be exerted vlow the pivotal point. By providing the plates 10, the s ring is permitted to swmg'between the pivo al 'oints of the device.
In or er that the device may be actuated from raised to lowered position, a lug 13 is rovided on that face of the pawl 8 which sition. When the foot of the operator is placed on the lug to swin the pawl downwardly, it will be observed the foot will only engage the adjacent face of the pawl and that therefore all danger of damagin the door by`\ striking the foot thereagainst is obviated.
- What `is claimed is- A door check comprising a vertically disposed bracket including a pair of outwardly extending' parallel spaced lugs, a pawl having one end bifurcated, outwardly extending p'ntles on the ends of said furcations journ led'in the outer ends of the lugs and a retractile spring having one end secured to the Abracket and the other end secured to the pawl between the furcations.
