Pani'. assunse, esprimere@ ILLINois;
To all @01mm t concern i, l BeA it known that I, PAUL improvements in Ash-Sitters, of
following is a.spec ilication.Q,y f
which the,
This invention relates to ash sitters lparticularly to sifters designedvv for direct application to stoves, the object of Athe invention being to provide a device of this character which will include' a foraminous movable member beneath the grate of the stove and an ash receiver beneath the yforaminous member, the said oraminous member being mounted whereby'it may bemanually operated to permit the waste-matter to be deposited into the ash receiver. j
Another object of the invention'isthe pro-y vision of a device ofthis character which will facilitate the sifting operation and effect a direct saving in the coal and elimi nate the necessity of a subsequent sifting of the ashes after the latter are removed from the stove. C j j Another object of the invention is to proi i vide a light foraminousash tray Whichwill include a guard or shield? for preventing they dust from escaping from the sifting com-` partment during the siftingL operation. L
lVith these and other objects in view, the
i invention consists of certain'novel features of construction, combination andv arrange I- ment of parts, as will be2-hereinafter des f' scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: `Figure 1 r is a Jfront elevation ofa stove, yshowing the application of theinvention thereto; Fig. 2 is a 'section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig.' 3 is asection on line 3 3 of Fig., 2;
The device is designed for use particularly upon stoves designed forense in hotels, bal
eries or large establishments where a direct sifting of ,the ashes on their discharge from the grate results in a material saving in coal, but, however, it is toy be understood that the device may be connected in any form of domestic stove or suitable coal consiuner.-
The stove l conventionally illustratedk herein, is provided with the usual ash pit' ylocated directly beneath the grate 2V and divided into a main sifting compartment -3,
. D,an ash receiving compartment 4 anda re.
ceiving compartment 5, the latter being dened by adjacent `Walls of the y,stove and a Specification 'ofy Letters IPatent.
, lating.
. j i ,l removable `horizontal-- slide 6 on which the C. BRENNER, a` citizen of the United State s,1lresiding?y atl 4Chicago, in the countylofQo'olrjandState2 4of Illinois, have invented newand usefull coal onvits 'dischargefrom' the grate maybe liirst" deposited and temporarily collected. i
"This serves to permit the coalsfto be V'partly cooledbeiore-'they aredeposite'd onto the ash tray., The slide is provided with a manipugrip 7,y which is located exteriorlyof Patented sept.}1,1914. f Application inea septemberqas, 1913. seriinocsi'fiau 4the front wall ofthe stovewhereby it may f be "conveniently manipulated and adjusted to aposition to permit the materialy to be discharged into the 'compartment 3. The n compartment is provided with longitudinal side rails 8, on which rollers 9 of a sliding oraminous ash sifting tray are adapted to travel. This'tray is provided with a solid front, bottom portion 11 and shield'forming frontand top walls 12 and 13, the latter and the wall y12 'being adapted tofbe projected through an opening 14 in the front wall of `the stove and to form a closure for the open` ing during the operation of vreciprocating the ash tray. vThese parts just mentioned form a substantially rectangular shield or closure which is adapted to4`v freely pass throughthe opening 14 to render thelatter ldusttight during the sifting operation. Be-v neath said oraminous ash tray and rmounted in the compartment 4 is an ash receiving tray 15, which is adapted tok be moved through yan opening 16 in the front wall of the stove so that it canbe removed after the sifting operation. The Wall 12 of the sifting tray carries ahand grip 17, which may be engaged by the hand and manipulated to impart vsifting movements' to the tray.
Between the slide 6 and the sifting tray and j preferablyextending at anl angle from' the front wall and vinthe direction ofthey sifting l tray is a delecting pl'atelS, which is adapt-- ed to insure the introduction of the` waste materialonto the foramin'ous bottom yof the sifting tray. Theslide 6 may beutilized as a damper, it `being yevident thatffit'can be adjusted to a degree whereby topermitofthe required introduction of airV beneath4 the grate. y j
From the yforegoing' description, taken in connection with theaccompanylng drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood `without` requiring a moreextended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of constructionmay be resorted to without 1 departing from the principle or sacrificing any of ythe advanktages of this invention, as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim 1s:-
a horizontal slide mounted beneath the grate, a sifting tray slidably mounted in the stove, the stove having an opening disposed in line With the tray, a rectangular relatively Wide shield movable in the opening `and cari ried by the tray, a second tray mounted be- .cath the iirst tray, and a doWnWardly-'extending deliecting plate carried by the stove Y and underlying .the slide and overlying the g rectangular` portion of the rst tray.
2. An ash sfter for stoves, comprising an impervious slide mounted Within the stove beneath the grate, a slidable tray mounted l. A sifting device for stoves comprising in the ash pit of the stove, a movable sifting tray beneath the slide and a deecting member carried by the front Wall of the stove and extending in the direction of the sifting trav.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
