GIN-POLE CAP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE E. DOCKEN- nonrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Estacada, in the county of Olackamas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gin-Pole Caps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to ginpole caps, and it has for its object to provide a cap for the use of gin poles employed by loggers, and wherever heavy weights are to be raised.
A particular object is to provide a cheap and convenient device for suspending a pulley block, which may be quickly set in place, and readily removed when desired.
These and other objects will appearv from the accompanying drawing and the description in the specification; and they will be succinctly pointed out inthe claims.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective elevational view, showing a gin pole as in use, with my improved cap in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of my improved cap. Fig. 3 is a bottomplan view of same. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form, in which a separately formed attaching bar is used.
In the drawing, 1 designates the body of the cap, which will be made in varying sizes, of heavy casting, so as to possess consider able strength which will allow it to be dropped in place upon the gin pole 1 1. The weight of this cap will prevent it from being easily displaced in the operations employing it.
The cap is preferably of cylindrical form and has a central opening 9 from one end extending well toward the other end and large enough to allow it to be freely seated upon the upper end of the gin pole. It, moreover, is of considerable length so as to provide depth for the opening 9 which will prevent an easy displacement; and the outer face of the thick cylindrical wall is reduced from the upper end, to a point near the lower end as at2. This serves to remove unnecessary material, and leaves a peripheral flange 10 about the lower open end, which is provided with a plurality of apertures 8 into which the guy ropes 11 are secured.

To prevent the easy breaking of this flange, I provide a series of ribs 3 at equal lntervals about the body of the cap, and
these may be cast integrally with it, or
formed otherwise, as may be preferred.
Since the gin pole is usually inclined, thereby allowing the weight to be raised to swing free of obstruction, the cap also will be inclined, making it necessary to suspend the weight from the lowest point thereof. Accordingly there depends from the edge of the front side of the cap a lug 6 which is provided with an aperture 7 in which is engaged the clevis 13 to which is attached the pulley block 12 over which moves a cable carrying a weight such as a log to be loaded upon railway cars, and the like.
Since the lug 6 might be easily broken, especially when frozen, if formed integrally with the casting, I have provided a detachable bar 6, which may be formed of steel, and which is adapted to be seated in a recess 10 in the flange 10 and secured by rivets 15 through the wall of the cap. This bar eX- tends below the flange 10 the same as the lug 6, and it may be extended over the top of the cap and secured in the opposite side for additional strength. Other variations in the attachment of this bar may be made, all within the scope and principle of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim, is-
1. A gin pole cap comprising a cylindrical body portion closed at one end, the outer surface being reduced at intervals to a point near the open end to form a supported lateral flange in which are spaced apertures and a pulley block connecting element extending beyond the face of said flange.
2. A gin pole cap comprising a tubular body portion closed at one end, a lateral flange having spaced apertures therein about the open end of said body portion, and adetachable connecting bar secured upon said body portion and extending through said flange below the open end thereof.
