APPLIQATION FILED MIG. 21, 19134 1,103,721. imma ,my im@ .ment of the suine ALLEN T. WILLIAMS, O1" BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
PICTURE-HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
remitted Jury 1.4!,"iere.
.eppiicauon inea August ci, 191e. seria. N. wenn.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, ALLEN T. WILLIAMS., a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk sind State oflVIassnc/husetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be e. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such :is will enable others skilled in the art to which it iippertiiins 'to ineke und use the seme.
This invention relates to new end useful improvements in its object to provide a. hook which may be readily attached to the vusual picture molding and still remain substantially immov able thereon until it is desired to remove the same.
Considerable ditiicultyhas been experienced in the use of picture hooks in connection with molding, inasmuch es the hooks ',:ere cpt to become displaced end fall from their positionl when it is desired to hang e icture thereon sind my invention has for its object to eliminate the disadvantage mentioned and by menne of n. suitable mechanism the hook is held securely in'its position on the'molding und accidental dislodg;-
is substantially eliminated.
Another object of my invention is to provide a, simple device which may be easily operated -aiid'clienp to manufacture. l
Withthe above and other ob'ects in View I now proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompany` ing drawin in which-- Figure 1 is a View of n fragment ofy picture inoldingshowing my improved hook uppliedthereto, and Fig. 2 is e transverse sectional View taken on line 2-2 of Fig, l.
Referring to the drawings hvchiiriictci-e of reference, 5 indicates generally the usuel picture molding compi-icing;` the lioiiil (i und the base .portion 7. This liciid (l is spin-eil from the well :is clearly illustriitcd iii li`i `2 und the hook is` adapted to poss partly there around and be held iii position thereon.
My improved picture hook usuel body portion ,8 having formed :it the upper end thereof the book member J which is adopted to engage the bend 6 of 'thc picture nioldin und hold the body portion in pliice. At t comprises the picture hooks and has forA 'resilient wire secured :it one end to one end e' lowerextrcniity of the body` portion is the usual Wire retaining lioolr over which the usuel picture hanging; 'wire is adapted to pese.
' l1 is secured to the licei" A. resilient Wire 9, as clearly illustrated et 12, and terminates at vits opposite extremity in the point 1E, which is adapted to enter the picture mold ing and hold the device in lece. intermediate the point of the portion il. prefer ably provide the outwerdly curved portion 14, which is adapted to receive theloop 15 formed on the knob i6, es clearly shown inl rig. 2.
In use my. improved picture hook ie placed in position on the molding the 16 is then pulled usual manner. rllie knob outwardly which will causethe point spring leasing the knob 16 it the point 13 will be pressed into 'the eeft Wood of the picture molding and in 'thefty yWay prevent accidentel displacement oit the When it hook with relation to the is desired to release the hook from ite poeiwf tion the only operation necessiti."
is the piillw ing of the knob 16, which Wil cause the point 13 to come out of engagement with the moldingi as the hook muy be removed with out further trouble. l
,While in the'foregoing l have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention', l Wish it Ito be understood that may change the specific iirrcngcments of ports without in :my wey departing from the-s irit and scope ot my invention.
1. The combination with e ptuie hooir'ot of seid hook and curved to lie *Ziet l the onteifaire of seid book, en. e'iifijulerly und in- .verdlj,r extending pointed portion eiitondii'igg through :in aperture in tbe hooi: to engsige the picture incl/.ling und boing; formed inte# giinl with the' wire,
iiectod with .the wire :it the point of forum.- tion thm-colf` with the pointed iingulerly en'.- tended portion.
2. The combination with u picture hook hui-'ingr :i molding book et one end and ii picture wire supporting hooi; et the other end of u resilient Wire permanently secured :it one emi adjacent to the 'free ond of the molding hook und being lient to lie upon the ref out und the hook may be placed 'et y i the desired point on the molding. Uponvrewill be obvious that und it knob loosely con- 10o outer fece of the picture hook, :in iiiigulur At 2 y 1,1os,`721
