Description
B. SGHROER.
WIGKET.
APPLIOATION FILED D110. 29, 1913.
Patented June 33,1914. I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. y
BERNHARD SCHROEB, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
WICKET.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERNHARD SoHRonR, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Hamburg, Germany, have invented a new and useful Vicket, of which the following is a specification.
The devices hitherto used upon the entrance or outer doors of apartments and the like which have observing holes (with or without glass windows) or doors with vsecurity chains or the known observing mirrors which are mounted before the doo-rs or windows, allow only the observation of a little part of the field of the view. Furthermore the known observing holes in doors which can be closed by covers or doors have only a very little field of view. The object of the invention is an improved security device for observing through the outer entrance doors of apartments and the like.
In the drawing two forms of construction of the device are represented.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the one form having an opened door. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the back part of the device seen from the place of the observer. Fig. 4 shows a horizontal section through the device and a part of the entrance door. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of the second form of construction and Figs. 6 and 7 are vertical sections on an enlarged scale in opened and closed position.
The observing device consists of a casing g which is arranged behind a slit in the door. In the slit of the door is mounted a frame or casing for the mirrors whose front is closed by a glass plate c'. For securing the mirrors a door f is pivoted to the outer side of the slit in the apartment door. The door is opened by a spring m and can be closed by means of a pulling cord f1 by the observer' behind the apartment door. The door f can be provided with sign boards and can be made oit' metal porcelain wood or the like. Furthermore the door f can be made with a separate door for a letter boX. The sidemirrors o, Z are obliquely arranged against the inner side of the apartment or entrance door. The side mirrors o, CZ are rigidly connected with the horizontal mirrors e and b and the glass plate i; thereby forming a rigid frame or casing.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 809,373.
Since the form of the mirrors has greater dimensions at the inner side of the apartmentdoor the removing of the mirrors is only possible in the direction of the inner side of the apartment door and thereby the casing g of metal secures the frame or casing of mirrors in the oblique slit in the apartment door. The frame of the outer door f can be affixed to the casing g by means of pins or screw bolts.
The second form of construction seen in Figs. 5J? shows side mirrors o1 Z1 which are mounted upon doors which are drawn toward the inner side of the apartment door by means of springs. By the opening of the door f the side mirrors c1, Z1 are pressed rearward by arms f2 which are aiiixed to the clap-door f. When the door f is lifted and has arrived at the horizontal position, the side mirrors c1, l1 are no longer arrested by the arms f2 and the spring causes them to move sidewise and then the door f covers all 7 the slit room and the mirrors therein. F urthermore the inner side of the door f can be provided with a mirror f3.
The operation and motion of the mirrors c1, d1, f3 are the same as in the other form of construction by a chain or cord f1. The back wall consists of a wall g1 with a slit for observing.
I claim:
l. An observing security device for entrance doors consisting of a frame or casing formed by obliquely arranged mirrors (c, d, b) a door (f) pivoted to the front side of said frame or mirrors and means for opening or closing said door in the inward o-r outward direction by the observer.
2. Observing security device for entrance doo-rs comprising in combination: a frame, formed by obliquely arranged mirrors (o, d, b), a door (f) pivoted upon said frame and means for moving said door in the inward or outward direction and means for moving the singular particular side mirrors (c1, (Z1) in outward direction if the door (f) is outwardly moved.
