To all whom it may conc-em Be it known that I, JAMES D. GIBBs, a citizen of the United ,f States residing at Louisville, in the county of jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Railway-Passage Tickets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the class of tickets known las exchange tickets, by which vis meant tickets which are not sold directly for a certain rate or money consideration, but which are given in exchange for the coupons or detachment from a mileage or scrip ticket previously sold at a reduced rate, and the object of my ticket is to facilitate the work of the ticket agent and minimize the time required to issue it.

Heretofore it has been the practice of ticket agents to insert in both the passage coupon and stub of a book ticket, with pen and ink or indelible pencil, the name of the Stations from and to which the ticket is to be used, the number of the mileage or scrip ticket from which the coupons Vhave been taken in exchange, the name of the railway issuing said mileage or scrip ticket, and frequently the date limit of the exchange ticket, after which it is detached from the book and stamped by agent on back of both the passage coupon and the stubL This process is not only burdensome to the ticket agent but very annoying` to the traveling public, causing many travelers to miss their trains and bringing forth much criticism.

It is the object of my ticket to obviate much of this difficulty, to accomplish which lf print the twoi arts of the ticket substantially in. duplicate, but on Opposing sides of the paper so that when folded, the

blank spaces of the passage portion, including'a xed space for agents stamp, exactly register or correspond as to location with the identical spaces on the stub portion, whereby, throu h the a plication o a carbon-coated sur ace on tile back of the passage portion of the ticket, all enor pencil impressions thereon are trans erred to the stub portion leaving an exact duplicate of all marks made upon the passage ticket.

It will be seen Ithat the agent merely removes the uppermost ticket from the pack, inserts with indelible pencil or pen, on the passage coupon only, the name of station to whlch ticket is to be honored, the number of the mileage or scri book presented by passenger, and the initials of theissuing railway; then, by one impression upon the face of the folded ticket of the agents stamp, b, embracing the name of the railway, Selling date and name-of station from which the ticket is to be good for passage, the agents work is completed and it only remains for him 'to separate the two coupons, handing one to the passenger and retaining the other for his record.

Having thusl described my inventlon, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A railway ticket comprising a single sheet having a weakened line for folding and separation and providing two sections, one section bearing printed matter on the obverse face constituting a passage portion and the other section bearing printed matter on its reverse face constituting a stub, the opposite faces of each section being provided with appropriately designated spaces for inserted matter so located as to be in register when the passage section is folded upon the stub sectlon, the assage portion having on its un rinted acea transfer -coating correspon ing in position to the spaces for inserted matter.
