Description
' M. L. WEAVER.
,1913. 1,100,640. Patented June 16,1914,
MARTIN LUTHER WEAVER, OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.
WINDOW-VENTILATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1914.
Application filed. October 22, 1913. Serial No. 796,668.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARTIN LUTHER Weaver, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Yi indoW Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
The invention provides an attachment which may be readily fitted to any window to direct a portion of the air blowing sub stantially parallel with such window through the latter into the room, apartment or other place to be ventilated.
The invention consists of a deflector adapted to be projected outward from the window, and a frame of peculiar form having such deflector attached thereto and retained in place between the sill and sash, the latter being lowered upon the frame to clamp the same in the required position.
The invention consists of the novel fea tures, details of construction and combination of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed outin the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing, forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a front view of a window provided with a ventilator embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a de tail view in perspective of the attachment.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the drawing, by the same reference characters.
The deflector 1 is provided at its upper and lower edges with outwardly flared wings 2, which serve to confine the air and insure a good proportion thereof passing through the window into the room or place to be ventilated. The wings 2 may form a part of the deflector or may be attached thereto in any manner. The deflector may be constructed of metal or other suitable material.
The frame to which the deflector is attached comprises uprights 3, cross pieces 4 and braces 5 and 6. The braces 5 are attached at their lower ends to the uprights 3 and are secured at a point between their ends to the braces 6. The upper ends of the braces 5 terminate about in line with the upper ends of the uprights 3 so as to touch the lower rail of the sash between which lVhen the deflector is in position it p rojects outward from the window opening and is arranged intermediate of the jambs so that a current of air blowing across the window opening in either direction will strike the deflector 1 and be directed into the room, apartment or similar place to be ventilated. The lower ends of the uprights 3 rest upon the sill and the sash is adjusted so that the lower cross piece comes between and engages the upper ends of the uprights 3 and braces 5, thereby holding the frame and device in position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principal of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when clesired as are within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
To prevent slipping of the device spurs 8 are provided at the lower ends of the uprights 3 to enter the sill or lower part of the window frame.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
1. A window ventilator comprising a deflector adapted to be projected from the window opening, and a frame for supporting the deflector from the window opening, said frame comprising up-rights,cross pieces connecting the uprights, braces attached at their lower ends to the uprights and inclining outwardly therefrom to receive the lower edge of the sash between the uprights and the braces, and other braces attached to the up-rights and the first-mentioned braces and having .connection with the deflector.
2. In. combination, a deflector, tip-rights, cross-pieces connecting the rip-rights, braces attached at their lowerends t0 the tip-rights In testimony whereof I al'fix my signaand lnchnlng at the1r upper ends away from ture 1n presence of two wltnesses.
the up-ri 'hts lateral braces attached at T w I a their inne r ends to the up-rights and the MARTIB LUTHER firstmenti0ned braces, and a deflector at- Witnesses:
taehed t0 the cross-pieces and t0 the outer J. LEE HOLLOWAY, ends of the lateral braces. A. N. DOYLE.
