The positioning ring 5 and the ring 7 are intended to be permanently tened to the felly 2.
The dcmountable rim 3 is held in position by 11 looking ring 12 which may either he a one-piece ring or may be made in two parts, as desired, and which has locking engagement with the heads 13 of studs 14 that are secured to and extend lot-erolly from the folly 2. These studs 14 may be secured in place in any suitable way. In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figsl to 6 said studs are formed as part of the bolts 9, that is each bolt is puovidedwith .an ex tension beyond the head 10, which extension is shaped to present a stud 14 having a head 13. The locking ring shown in Fig. l is a onepieee locking ring and itis provided with at body portion which overlies the ring 7 and with a flange portion 15 which engages the deniountable rim 3. 1 The onepiece looking ring is shown in Fig. 5, and it is provided with a. plurality of slots 16, one for each of the headed studs Said slots have :1 progressivelydecreosing width from one end to the other, and at their-Widestend permit the heads 13 of rim and position they are of a size to the studs to pass through them, as shown in ig. l. In. applying the, locking ring it is placed over the studs with'the heads 13 thereof 6 that is adapted this position the portion 17 thereofi on each side of the narrow'end of the slot lies behind the head 13 so that the rin is firmly held in place. When the locking ring 12- is first placed over the headed 15 studs, the bolt occupies the narrow end of the slot18, as shown in Fig. 6. As the cone member 19'is screwed onto the bolt and the cone enters the slot 18 it forces the locking ring around into its locking posi- 20 tion shown in Figs. 1 and 4:, as will be obvious. Said cone, therefore, not only moves the locking ring into its locking position, but it also holds it in such position. The removal of the demountable rim 3 involves merely unscrewing the cone-shaped nut 19 and then shifting the locking member 12 so to bring the heads 13 opposite thelarge portion of the slots and then moving the locking rim laterally. At the other end the ections of the locking ring overlap each other and the section 22 is provided with a slot 26, while the section 23 isprovided with a tapered slot 27 which tapers in the opposite direction from the slots 16, and the larger end of which is beveled, asshown at 28. necessary as the slots are primarily openings to receive the heads of the studs and the locking ring has such a shape adjacent these openings that when said ring is turned annularly, portions of the ring pass behind the heads of the studs, thus locking the ring in place. \Vhere the ring is made of one piece it is moved anhularly as an entity to bring it into locking position. \Vhere the locking ring is made in two sections, each section has a separate movement, but the movement of each section is annularly so that by the term annular movement of the locking ring 1 inean a movement annularly whether the locking ring is made in one section or two.
It will be obvious that various changes may be made in the cimstructional features of the invention without departing therefrom.
Having fully described my invention,what 'l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a wheel, the combination with a wheel body having a telly, of headed studs extending laterally from one side thereof, a demountable rim encircling the folly, a locking ring for locking said demountable rim in place, said lockingring having slots wider at one end than at the other, said slots at their widest ends having a suflicient width to pass over the headset the studs, and a c ne nut co-acting with said locking ring to tor-fie it positively in the direction of the length ol the slots thereby to bring the narrow portion= of said slots behind the heads.
2. The combination with a wheel body having a folly, of headed studs extending laterally trom one side thereof, a dcmountable rim encircling the'felly, a locking ring having slots of progressively .lecreasing width from one end to the ther, said slots at their widest ends havin; a sullicient width to pass over the heads o'l? the studs, said ring also having another tapered slot which tapers in the opposite ,lirection, from the firstnamed slots, and a wedge member to enter said latter slot and move the ring into its locking position.
3. In a wheel, the combination with a presenting at one end headed studs which ex tend laterally from the felly, a demountable rim encircling the folly, a locking ring for said demountable rim adapted to have locking engagement with said headed studs, said locking ring having a cone-receiving slot of progressively-varying width, a bolt extending transversely through the folly and said latter slot,'a coneshaped nut screwthreaded onto the bolt and entering said slot thereby to cause said locking ring to move in the direction of the length of the slots therein so as tobring the narrow portions of said slots behind said heads.
4. In a wheel, the combination with a wheel body having a felly, of a rim-position ing ring overlying one side of the telly, bolts extending transversely of said felly and ring for securing the latter to the folly, said bolts presenting at one end headed studs which extend laterally from the opposite side of the telly, a demountable rim encir- (-ling the folly and engaging the rim-positioning ring, and a locking ring for said deinountable rim, said locking ring having slots of progressively-decreasing width from one end to the other, said slots at their widest ends having a sullicient width to pass over the heads of the studs, and said locking ring also having a cone-receiving slot of progressirely-varying width, a bolt .extending transversely through the folly and said latter slot, and a cone-shaped nut screwthreaded on said bolt and entering said slot thereby torause the locking ring to be moved in the direction of the length of the slots therein and to he brought into locking engagement with the headed studs.
