Description

G. E. BURCH.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 12. 1916.

M 2 H 1 2/ i UNITED STATES PATENT onnion.
CHARLES E. BURCH, 0F PALACIOS, TEXAS.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Application filed February 12, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. BURCH, a native born citizen of the United States, residing at Palacios, in the county of Matagorda and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles, jugs and other containers of like character and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature so arranged that it will be necessary, when sealed, to destroy the bottle or other retainer, for the use for which it was prepared, as to prevent refilling before access may be had to its contents.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view through the neck of a bottle showing the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a resilient locking ring forming a part of the invention, and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views showing modifications of the locking rings.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the neck of a bottle having an annular groove B formed therein at any suitable location.
D is a disk with an annular groove E in the circumference thereof and adapted to receive a resilient split ring E, having projecting lugs H thereon, which in the drawings are shown as projecting inwardly, and spaced apart, said lugs being concaved upon their inner edges. Said split ring is adapted to be inserted in the annular Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1916.
Serial No. 77,994.
groove of the disk D when the same is inserted in the neck of a bottle and, when said ring and lugs thereon come opposite the annular groove in the neck, it will spring into the annular groove of the neck,
while the lugs extend within the annular the ring and disk, after which the cork or stopper may be removed.
It will be at once evident that the construction described is subject to certain modifications without departing from the spirit of the invention, as for instance if the lugs are made very short or narrow, so as to permit the use of a large number on the ring, it might not be required that they should be concaved on the outside if used outwardly.
What I claim to be new is A non-refillable bottle having a neck with an annular groove in its inner face, a disk with an annular groove therein adapted to register with the groove in the neck, a resilient split ring having inwardly projecting portions thereon, spaced apart with their opposite faces flush with the edges of the ring and designed to engage the registering grooves in the neck of the bottle and said disk, and a cork held within the neck by said disk. In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES E. BURCH.
