mes es.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Soim Iinnzoo, a citi zen of the United States, and a resident oi New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap-Buttons, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to a snap button of novel construction which may be readily manipulated and will adapt itself to any small variations in the size of its male member.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section. on line 11 Fig. 2, of a snap button embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a cross section on line 22 Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a front elevation.
The male member of the fastener comprises a. plate 1 provided with avv rounded head 2 as usual, and. does not form part of the present invention.
The femah member is composed of a cir' cul'ar casing 3 having a peripheral flange 4:, a plurality of thread holes 5,"an d a central opening 6, adapted for the reception of head 2. \Vithin casing 3 there is housed a continuous resilient wire 7 bent'into steilated form, the drawing showing it to be provided with four points, three of which are closed The tips 5 of these closed points bear against flange r. while the inner ends of the points are joined at obtuse angles, to form angular rei ntrant projections 9,- which extend inwardly a distance beyond. the edge of opening 6 so as to be accessible to head 2. The two ends of the wire 7 are disconnected and converge toward each other to form the Specification of Letters Patent.

fourth point of the star. such ends contacting some distance from flange 4 as at 10. From this point 10 on, the wire ends are deflected laterally to diverge from each other and form a pair of toes ll that approach flange 4 on opposed curves. The result of this construction is that when the button is closed, head 2 will spread toes 11 and cause them to travel along rim +t for such a distance as will suiiice to permit a ready engagement of'the head with the wire. In this way, the button may be closed with a comparatively slight pressure, and will effect a proper cooperation of the parts, even in case the head has become flattened or enlarged by use. After the head has cleared the wire, the pressure on the latter will cease, so that the toes will again aprn-oaeh each other and the projections 9 will obtain a tirm grasp upon the shank of the button.
I claim:
In a snap button, a female member comprising a flanged casing, an inclosed starshaped resilient wire having a plurality of inwardly directed angular 'n'ojectioi-is adapted-to engage a button shank, the two end portions of the wire that form one of the star-points being disconnected from each other at the tip of said point, said end portions first converging into operative engagement with each other at a distance from said tip, and thence diverging at said tip to form a pair of: outwardly directedtoes that are adapted to travel along the casingflange.
