AMOS F. SEYMOURE, F ALBION, INDIANA.
SCAFFOLD-BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMos F. Summons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albion," in the county of Noble and Stateof Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scaffold-Brackets, of
A which the following is a specification, refer- 'sitions.
The'inve'ntion consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved bracket whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a scaffold constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention in applied position; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section illustrating the coaction between the brace bar and the locking member as herein embodied; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section illustrating the lower end of the brace bar as herein embodied.
In practice it will be understood that a plurality of my improved brackets will be employed in connection with a scaffold, but for the purposes of disclosure I am describ- \ing and illustrating a single bracket.
As disclosed in the accompanying ings, 1+'1 denote supporting members comprised in my improved bracket, each of said members being preferably formed of fiat metal having its lower portion 2 disposed on a predetermined lateral incline with its Specification of Letters Patent.

lower extremity twisted, as at 3, to afford a mounting for the pivot member 4 herein disclosed as a conventional bolt with its coacting nut.
The upper end portion of each of the members 1 is provided with a pair of outstanding perforate ears 5 for a purpose to be hereinafter more particularly referred to, and said member 1 at a point above and below the pair of ears 5 is provided. with a button-hole slot 6 with its restricted end portion extended upwardly. In practice, suitable headed members 7 may be adapted to be engaged with a wall W or the like and with which the members 1 are adapted to be detachably engaged through the medium of the button-hole slots 6 in a manner which is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my present invention appertains.
Coacting with each ,pair of ears 5 is a plank supporting member 8 of predetermined dimensions and preferably T-shape in cross section with the head disposed upwardly and the web thereof extending between the ears 5 and pivotally engaged by the pivot member 9 disposed through the ears 5 and the web of the member 8.
The supporting members 8 are arranged in forward convergence and disposed through the outer extremities of said members 8 is the pivot member 10 which is also directed throu h the tail 11 of the locking member 12, said tail 11 being directed between the It will also be noted that the pivotal mounting of the locking member 153 permits the brace bar 14 to be freel disposed through the locking member an at the same time permits the requisite engagement of the locking member 12 with a shoulder 15.
While I have hereinbefore set forth my device as applied to a wall, it will be under-,
'It is also to be observed in detail Fig. 3 that the inner lower corner of the brace bar 14 is square and sharp and when the device is in assembled position, will ex'lgend slightly beyond the rear edges of the embers 1 to impinge the wall W or other support with which the bracket may coact, and whereby a further support for the load is afforded.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a bracket constructed in accordance with my inventionis of,an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particiilarly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it maybe assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modifica- 7:
tion without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this a reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein Copies of this patent may be obtained tor the cents each, by addressing the Washington, D.- 0.
shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
A scaffold bracket comprising two sup porting members robided with anchoring means, plank supporting members pivotally engaged with the supporting members adjacent an upper end thereof, a brace bar T -shape in form and having its web disposed.
inwardly, the lower ortion of the web being pivotally supporte between the opposite extremities of the supporting members, a locking member pivotally engaged between the outer extremities of the supporting members and provided with an opening through which the brace bar is directed, said brace bar having the free longitudinal edge of the web provided with longitudinally spaced shoulders with which the inner end of the locking member is adapted to coact, the lower free corner of the web of the brace being sharp and ada ted to extend beyond the rear edges of the bers a e in extended ,,furthersupport. I
In testimon whereof I hereuntoafiix my signature in AMOS F. SEYMQURE.
