Description

c. LABERGE. ATTACHMENT FOR GAS RANGES.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 25.1916.
Patented July 25, 1916.
I nve rito r:
cnAnLEs' LABERGE, orwnsrnnoox, MAINE.
ATTACHMENT IEOR' GAS-RANGES;
To all whom it may concern. Be it knownthat I, CHARLES LABERGE, a
citizenof the United States; residing at Westbrook, in the county of Cumberland 'and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Gas-Ranges, of whichthe following is aspecification.
- My Invention relates'to an attachment for gas stoves for the urpose of condensing and atty vapors which come from the oven".
The air from the oven laden with vaporized fat ascends in a compact stream from the ventilating opening connecting with the Y oven when the latter is being used for cooking meat and when the opening is adjacent reference to the kitchen wall, as it frequently is, a
vertical stain is produced on the wall whichv v soon spoils the paper or other wall covering.
a v The object of my invention is to condense a portion of the fatty material from the oven gases and to dissipate the balance so that ill; will not move in a concentrated stream and will not consequently form localized deposits on the walls.
My invention consists essentially of a tube or pipe applied to the oven ventilating flue, closedat the top and provided wlth a series of holes at the front portion for di recting the escaping gases forward over the body of the stove and away from the wall.
The pipeis preferably lined with a woven wire netting which serves to condense'and collect much of the -fat which is carried in vaporized form in the escaping oven gases. My invention may best be understood by to the accompanying drawmg in whichf Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in sectionlof the upper portion of a gas stove showing-my attachment in position and Fig. 2 is an enlargedsection on the line :0 w of Fig. 1.'
Referring to the drawing or represents the upper portion of a gas range'of any con- 7 struction and b isthe oven having a ventilating' flue 0 terminating in, a nipple d. 5
Connected to the nipple d is a short-section Specification of Letters Patent.

rear portion of the pipe being left imperforate. These holes taken together are preferably somewhat more than the area of the ventilating flue so that the oven gases will in various directions generally passing for= ward over the body of the range and being carried upward and diffused by the heated air rising from the stove. The pi e isprovided with a damper f and it is lined with wire netting 9 through which the gases'must pass before reaching the holes 6. The wires of the netting collect and concentrate a considerable quantity of the fat contained in the heated gases from the oven.
An attachment for gas ranges made according to my invention is. simple and inexpensive to make and not only saves the Walls to regulate the heat of the oven and the dispass freely through them and be dissipated v tribution of the same therein by the use of the dampers. I
I claim: a 1. An attachment for gas ranges having an oven ventilating flue near the rear of the range, said attachment consisting of a or tube closed at the top and connecte at the bottom with the flueand having a seipe ries of holes on the front side .only for dif-' fusing the oven gases through the ascending column of heated air rising from' the range proper.
2. An attachment for gas ranges having an oveniventilating flue near the rear of the the oven gases through the ascending column of heated air rising from the range proper and having a lining of'woven netting. v
In testimony whereof ,'I have aflixed my signature.
j CHARLES LABERGE.
