FILING-CASE.

T0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IVILLIAM E. \Vns'r- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Villmar, in the county of Kandiyohi and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to filing cases.

The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of a filing case including a plurality of flexible pockets, each of which are divided into compartments andreceive preferably recording tags from envelops, the compartments being numbered to facilitate the recording of the flap or other paper, the recording means also facilitating the securing of the pockets.

Another object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel rigid means associated with the end pockets for facilitating the retention of the shape of the pockets and for protecting the pockets when in a folded condition.

A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel means for securing the pockets in alinement and also the securing of the compartments in alinement with the compartments of the adjacent pocket.

A still further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, eliicient in operation and one that can be manufactured and. placed on the market at a minimum cost.

Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.

designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, I provide a plurality .offlexible pockets 1, each of which in this instance consists essentially of a piece of cloth folded so that the longitudinal marginal edges are arranged in parallelism with each other and the pocket further having the sides thereof stitched transversely as at 2 at uniformly spaced intervals throughout the length thereof to provide a plurality of compartments 3, the latter being adapted to receive suitable papers preferably a recording flap from an envelop that is used for determining the whereabouts of a container sent by a retail dealer. For the purpose of securing the compartments 3 of each of the pockets in horizontal alinement with each other, I have glued, sewed or otherwise secured the outer faces adjacent the upper marginal edges of each of the compartments to the outer faces adjacent the upper marginal edges of the adjacent pocket as at 4, the compartments being folded adjacent the stitches 2 as at 5 to provide bellows folds between the compartments to facilitate the opening of the compartments and also allow for the reception ofa substantially thick tag or a number of papers or cards.

For the purpose of supporting and protecting the pocketsl when a plurality are arranged in parallelism, I have provided a pair of rectangular rigid plates 6 formed preferably of stiff card-board and have secured the upper marginal edges of the outer faces of the end pockets between the folds 5 to points adjacent the upper edges of the plates by means of glue. Because of the fact that the plates are slightly larger in elevation than the pockets, the outer edges of the pockets are fully protected against undue wear and again the plates serve the purpose of supporting the flexible pockets as clearly shown in Fig. 4c of the drawings.

In order to facilitate the recording of flaps or other papers in the compartments, I have provided a plurality of recording and securing elements generally designated points in proximity to the folds 5 for also facilitating the securement of the pockets as well as accomplishing the purpose of recording the flaps for determining the whereabouts of a container.

Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to be understood that I am not limited to the exact details shown; however, great stress is laid upon the arrangement of the plurality of flexible pockets having the compartments formed therein for the purposes set forth, the compartments being formed in the novel manner for facilitating the reception of a large amount of papers or the like.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it can easily be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.

It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A filing case including a plurality of flexible pockets, a plurality of compartments being formed in each pocket by stitching the opposite sides of each pocket together transversely at uniformly spaced intervals, and said pockets being secured together in a transverse series to permit a movement of the pockets toward and away from each other.

2. In a filing case, the combination with rigid supporting end flaps, of a plurality of parallel arranged flexible pockets, a plurality of compartments being formed in. each of said pockets by stitching the opposite sides transversely at uniformly spaced intervals, the compartments in each pocket being secured in alinement with the compartments of the adjacent pocket, and the end pockets being secured to the supporting plates. s

3. A filing case including a plurality of flexible pockets each comprising a plurality of compartments in a longitudinal series, said pockets being secured together in a transverse series, and a recording element secured to the upper edges of the sides of two adjacent compartments for facilitating the securing of the compartments.

In a filing case, the combination with rigid supporting plates, of a plurality of flexible pockets, each formed of a piece of material bent upon itself and having the longitudinal edges arranged in alinement, a plurality of compartments being formed in each of said pockets by stitching the opposite sides thereof together transversely at uniformly spaced intervals, the compartmentsin each pocket being secured in alinement with the compartments of the adjacent pocket, said compartments being folded adjacent the transverse stitches to provide bel lows folds for facilitating the opening of the compartments, and the outer sides of the end pockets being secured to said supporting plates.

5. In a filing case, the combination with rigid supporting plates, of a plurality of flexible pockets, each formed of a piece of material bent upon itself and having the longitudinal edges arranged in alinement, a plurality of compartments being formed in each of said pockets by stitching the opposite sides thereof together transversely at uniformly spaced intervals, the compartments in each pocket being secured in alinement with the compartments of the adjacent pocket, said compartments being folded adjacent the transverse stitches to provide bellows folds for facilitating the opening of the compartments, recording elements secured to the upper edges of the sides of the compartments adjacent the bellows folds for facilitating the securement of the pockets, and the outer sides of the end pockets being secured to said supporting plates.
