To all 1r 710m it may concern lie it known that I, CHARLES J. CALLAv lnx, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Attleboro, in the county of'Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cuff-Buttons, of which the following is'a specification.
This invention relates to cuff buttons of the class constructed of two members detachably connected together, and the object of this invention is to provide a cufl'I button having4 two members adapted to be readily connected to and disconnected from each other and of a class more particularly designed for retaining soft cuffs, each mem ber ofy the button having two spaced apart heads of a sizeto be retainedin the cuff fabric even when the members are disconnected from each other.
A further object of the invention is the vprovision of a pair of elongated spring arms ing action of the head portion of these arms,
causing them to remain under a given tension even when in their spread position.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, 'as willibe more fully described, and particularly pointed out in-the-v appended claims.

Referring tothe drawings the shells of the two opposite button members 10 and 11 are. herein shown as being similarly constructed. Themember 10 ,being provided with a post 12, one end of which is l'spread forming a head 13 with a roundingouter surface 14, the opening 15 through this head into the post member is slightly contracted at its edge forming anv annular shoulder 16 for engaging the head of the spring arms presently\\ described. A.1 plate 17 is rolled onto the V4'outer end of this tube 12 which outer endiis preferably shouldered at 18 toy retain the plate 17 thereon. vAn outer face 1S) of any suitable or ornamental material may be connected to this plate 17v by any suitable means, that shown in the drawing being a plate of gold whose edges are rolled over those of the inner plate 17. The opposite button member 11 is also provided with a tubular post 20 whose inner th' is spread to provide a flange or head 21 and the outer end 23 of the post is reduced, and passed through' an opening in the plate 22 and its edge rolled thereover as at 24. The outer plate of this head is attached by having its edge 2G rolled over that of the inner plate 22. It is found in practice diilicult to provide a separable button of this char-` acter having ball and socketretaining elements that will hold against the strain applied to it,"and is strong and durable in construction and one that will retain its spring and yieldability.
