Application lcd August 15, 1912. Serial No. 715,207.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, Oris L. BEARDsLnY, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Portable Washstands, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description. Y
My invention relates to a portable washstand, and its object is to provide a washstand which is cheap to manufacture, neat in appearance, light in weight, durable, strong and rigid.
My invention contemplates a wash-stand in which the support for the wash-bowl consists of an annular metallic band having an inturned horizontal flange, said band itself being supported upon a plurality of legs, each formed of a wire bent upon itself and twisted for a long portion of its length, the ends of the wire being secured upon the inside of said metallic band and the several legs being suitably braced intermediate their ends to prevent their spreading apart.
My invention may be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view o f a washstand embodying myinvention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged, fragmentary, vertical section of the annular supporting band and the washbowl held therein; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged, fragmentary, vertical section of the shelf which constitutes a brace for the legs.
Similar letters of referencerefer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is an annular, metallic band having an inturned horizontal flange 2 upon which rests the rim of the wash-bowl 3.
. The band 1l is supported by a plurality of legs fl each consisting of a wire bent upon itself and provided with a loop 5 constituting the foot, each of said wires being twisted together for a portion of its length as at 6 and the upper ends of said wires being drawn apart and the separated ends secured as at 7 upon the inside of the metallic band by means of bolts or rivets 8, or in other suitable manner.
lterior surface of the bowl.
The legs 4 are braced intermediate their lengths, such brace preferably consisting of a circular metallic shelf 9 formed of sheet metal having a depending circumferential fiange 10 against which the legs are clamped by bolts 11. The shelf 9 has a concave upper surface 13, whereby water that may be spilt from a pitcher 12, supported upon said shelf, may be prevented from running over on the floor. Such shelf though formed of sheet metal is, by reason of its concave shape and the circumferential flange, very stiff and forms a rigid brace for said legs. However, if desired, additional cross braces 14C may be employed for bracing said legs.
The portable wash-stand of my invention is preferably provided with a soap-holder 15 riveted to the band 1 and a towel rack 16, thelatter consisting of a curved wire secured at its end to the band l.
It will be noted that the wash-stand of my invention is formed wholly of metal, and may be readily cleansed, thus being sanitary. The inturned flange 2, in addition to forming a suitable support for the wash-bowl, serves to hold the outer surface of the bowl from coming in Contact with the inner ends of the bolts 8, which might otherwise mar the eX- Said flange 2 also materially strengthens said band 1 and at the same time adds to the attractive appearance of the wash-stand. rIhe above described shape of the shelf 9 adds both to its strength and the attractiveness of its appearance. The concavity upon its upper surface, while it effectively serves as a catch bowl for water that may slop over from the pitcher, can readily be dried or cleansed, and possesses no sharp corners which might collect dirt.
What I claim is:
A portable wash-stand comprising an angle iron formed as a closed ring, a plurality of legs each consisting of a wire doubled on itself with the lower ends of the two strands twisted together and the upper' ends spaced apart and secured inside the vertical flange of said angle iron, the latter serving to support a wash-bowl substantially equal in diameter to said ring and fitting within and resting on the horizontal flange of said angle with the latter also accessible from all sides iron, whereby said Wash-bowl is equally acof said stand. 10 cessble from* all sides of the supporting In Witness whereof7 I hereunto subscribe stand, and. a metal shelf secured to said legs my name this 29th day of July, A. D., 1912.
