Be it known that I, SYLvns'rEa MoznoLL, a citizen of the United States residing at Rochester in the county of traiford and j State of ew Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in the construction of curtain brackets.

An object of the invention is to produce a shade roller support or bracket which can be attached to the window casing without defacing or marring the same at any point of contact with the said casing and which will securely and effectively support the roller.

Another object of the invention is to construct a shade roller support or bracket of three elements comprising a hanger which is adapted to be inserted between the to of the window casing and the surface to w ich the casino' is secured, a back late which engages with the han er and w ich rests upon the outer face of t e window casing and a bracket roper which is detachaby connected with both the hanger and with the back plate but which engages with the same in such a manner as to lock the said plate and hanger as Well as to force the engaging member of the hanger into more tight enngement with the window casing and to orce the hanger against the outer face of the casing without permittin the bracket to contact with the said casing when the weight of the curtain roller is upon the bracket.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following s eciication and falling within the scope o the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawiner in detail, the numeral 1 designates an or .inary window casing having at its op )osito cnds a shade curtain support or bracket 2 which is constructed in accordance with my invention.

Each of the brackets or sup orts is ol' a similar construction and includes a hanger 3, a back or rotective plate 4 and a bracket or curtain ro ler support proper 5.

Each of the elements comprising the improvement is preferably constructed of spring material, such as light strong stccl but, of course, the same may be. formed ol an1 desired material. The hanger 3 comrises an arched or curved member having lts lower end formed with an inturncd portion or foot 6 and its upper end bent upon itself to provide an angular lip T, and this lip is adapted to be inserted between the casing 1, at the upper and inner edge thereM 0f and to engage with the laster or other surface to which the casing 1s secured. The curved or arched portion of the hanger will, of course, be arranged over the face of the top bar of the casing and while its 'foot (3 may be adapted to exert an inward tension toward the said casing, the said foot docs not at any time contact with the casing.

The back or protective plate 4t is wider than the hanger 3 and has its upper edge notched, as at 8, to receive the upper portion of the hanger outward of its lip 7. The opposite or lower end of the plate 4 is formed with an angular extension 9 which is adapted to underlie the angular end or lfoot G oi the hanger 3 and which may be forced into contact with the said foot in a manina` which will presently bo described. 'lluplate 4 is provided, at a suitable distance 9 above its angular end 9, with a transverse notch 10.

The bracket or shade. roller ,support proper, 5, is preferably constriu-tod from a single sheet of suitabli` material and includes spaced sides 11-11, thc said sides at their outer ends being provided with notches or openings 12 to reccirey the pintle or the shaft of the spring of the shade roller 13. The sides 11 are connected bv a top 1l-, the said top being arranged at. au inclination with respect to tho said ends of the sides which are provided with the notches or openings 12 and this top has what may he termed its forward cnd tcr indicated by the numeral 15, between the outer or straight portions of the sides 11...

The top extends a suitable distance beyond the inner ends `oi the sides 11 and the said projecting portion is notched, as at 16,

and this notch 1s adapted to be received in `the groove 10v otv the member 4, the arms or lugs 17 provided to the opposite sides of the notch engaging the opposite edges of the member 4. The bracket member 5 is first arranged u on the back plate 4.- in a manner as just described, and the han er 3` is brought between the forward ends o the spaced sides 11-of the bracket. The bracket is then swung so that its shoulder 15 will contact with the foot 6 of the hanger, and when the shade roller is arranged upon the bracket members 5, the weight thereof will cause the said members 5, to tilt or swing downwardly causing the shoulder 15 to force the foot 6 of the hanger into contact with the angular end 9 of the back or protector plate 4. This, it will be noted, will force the plate 4 into contact withthe outer face of the casing andalso cause the lip 7 of the hanger to moretightly engage with the inner edge of the casing.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the simplicity of the device as well as the advanta es thereof will, it is thought, be per ectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.

Having thus described the invention, what I clair-nis:

1. In .a means yfor supporting a shade roller or the like u on a window casing, including an arcli-sihaped hanger havin one of its ends bent to provide a lip whic i is inserted between the casing and the surface to which the casing is secured, an L- shaped plate adapted to rest upon the outer face of the casing, a bracket member including an element comprisin spaced sides, a top connecting the sides or a portion of their length, said top havin its inner end trunnioned upon the plate adapted to be swung upon the arch-shaped hanger to engage wit the lower end there- Copies o! this patent may be obtained for v'to which the casing of to force the said lower end into contact with the angular end of the late.

2. In a means for supporting a curtain roller upon a window casing, an archshaped hanger having one of its ends bent to provide a lip which is arranged between the inner face of the casing and the surface is secured, the opposite end of the hanger eing formed with an inturned foot, an L-shaped plate arranged to engage with the face of the casing, and to have its angular ortion underlie the foot of the hanger, said plate having a transverse groove, a bracket member including spaced sides and an angular top connecting the sides for a portion of their length, the inner edge of the top adaptedto be brought to engage with the foot of the hanger to force the said foot to contact with the angular end of the plate.

3. In a means for su porting a shade roller upon a window casing, a hanger comprising a flat spring member which is curve-d and which has its inner end formed with a lip that is adapted to be arranged over the casing and to be inserted between the said easing and the surface to which the casing is secured, the opposite end of the hanger being formed with an inturned foot, a plate arranged over the face of the casing, said plate having its upper edge notched to engage with the hanger and its lower edge formed with an angular extension which underlies the foot of the hanger, said plate having a transverse groove arran ed above its angular end, a bracket mem er, said bracket including spaced sides, an inclined top eonnectin the sides for a portion of their length an extending beyond the sides, said extension being notched, said grooved portion adapted to be received in the roove of the plate, and the opposite end 0% the top adapted to contact wlt 1 the foot of the hanger to force the same toward the angular end of the plate to hold the plate and hanger associated.
