Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
Application filed February 16, 1916. Serial No. 78,750.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat I, LEWIS C. HILL. a citizen of the United States, residing at Myrtle Creek, in the county of Douglas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in figure toys and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and proved device of this general character whereby the figure is supported by a vibratory member whereby the figure may be caused to move upon vibration of the supporting member.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved toy whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating a toy constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section of one of the lower members carried by the body mounted upon the figure, as herein included; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section of one of the upper members carried by the body.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a base of predetermined configuration and having extending upwardly therefrom the alined standards 2 having their upper or free extremities tied or connected by the vibratory member 3, preferably of wire.
F denotes a figure preferably in simulation of a bronco and having secured to the neck thereof, an extremity of the retractile member 4, herein disclosed as a conventional coil spring, the opposite extremity of said member being suitably secured to the vibratory supporting member 3.
As herein embodied, the fore legs of the figure F are rigid and disconnected from the base 1, while the hind legs of the figure are hingedly engaged with the base 1 through the medium of the leaves 5 of predetermined dimensions. The retractile member 4 serves to normally maintain the figure with the body substantially horizontal, but it will be at once perceived that by vibrating the supporting member 3, as by striking the same, the figure F will be caused to move vertically with substantially an oscillatory movement, and wherein the actions of a bucking bronco are closely imitated.
Suitably fixed to the back of the figure F is the body 13 of a doll, said doll being preferably in simulation of a cowboy, although I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself in this respect. Dangling from opposite sides of the body B and at the lower extremities thereof, are the flexible limbs 6 wherein the body B is given theappearance of being astride the figure F and said limbs 6, as herein disclosed, comprise a plurality of pivotally connected sections 7. The upper portion of the body B adjacent the head H thereof, is provided with the arms 8 also comprising hingedly connected sections 9 with the free extremities of the outer sections connected with the head H of the figure F by the flexible members 10, said members 10 being in simulation of guiding reins.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a toy constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
1. A toy comprising a base, uprights car-.
eluding depending legs adjacent its opposite ends, and leaves hingedly connected with the base and with the lower extremities of the rear legs of the figure.
3. A toy comprising a base, uprights carried thereby and in predetermined spaced relation, a Vibratory member connecting said thereof and the supporting member, said figure including depending legs adjacent its opposite ends, the rear legs of the figure being hingedly connected with the base.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
