To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HUBERT A. Lnisn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in napkin holders and has for its principal object to provide a device which will hold a napkin in such a position as to prevent crumbs and the like from falling into the lap of the user.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a device which not only holds the napkin but which will provide a tray for the removal of the dish or dishes after the user is through with them.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a device for holding individual salt shakers, and the like within easy reach of the user.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device which may be readily constructed of an inexpensive material and which may be folded so as to occupy a minimum amount of space.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device in use, Fi g. 2 illustrates the device in its folded position and ready to be removed, Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device in its folded position, and Fig. 4 is a side view in elevation of the device in its open position.

Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety the base of the device comprising the arcuate portion 2 which terminates at its forward end in the inwardly inclined extensions 3. The opposite ends of these arcuate portions terminate in the outwardly flared portion 4 which are provided with the upwardly inclined portions 5 which in turn are bent rearwardly as at 6 and are joined by means of the bars 7. the ends of which are joined beneath the sleeve 10 which is welded or otherwise secured to said end.

The condiment holder retaining member is designated generally by the numeral 11 and comprises the neck 12 which is formed at each end with a suitable ring 13 which ring is provided with a flange 14 and these flanges 14 form sockets for the reception of the condiment holders.

Extending downwardly from the under side of the rings 13 are suitable flanges which are arranged to be engaged by the arcuate portion 8 in order that the condiment holder support may be detachably secured to the device. A centrally screw threaded opening is formed in the neck 12 and is for the reception of the hollow stem 15 which is designed to hold tooth picks or the like.

Secured to the outwardly directed portions 4 of the arcuate members 2 by means of suitable rivets as at 16 are the springs 17 beneath which the napkin is slipped when the device is in use. Formed in the upper ends of the upwardly extending portions 5 are the transversely extending openings 18 the use of which will appear as the description proceeds. Suitable stops 19 are secured to the inclined members 6 and these stops cooperate with the openings 18 in holding the napkin support in its raised position.

The napkin support hereinbefore referred to is designated generally by the numeral 20 and comprises the bar 21 having formed at each end the spring loops 22, the terminals of which are inwardly directed as at 23 and these inwardly directed portions terminate I in the reduced extensions 24 which project through the openings 18 and pivotally hold the napkin supporter in place.

In use the device is assembled as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and it is then ready for the reception of the condiment holders 25 and 26 which are placed in their respective sockets. The plate 27 is then placed in position in the arcuate portion 2 and the lower edge of the napkin 28 is slipped beneath the springs 17 Upon swinging the napkin supporter 20 upwardly into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 and in Fig. 4 it will be evident that the napkin will be held in such position that any crumbs or other to remove the plate the napkin holder is swung downwardly into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the whole removed by grasping the bar 7 which forms a handle at one end and the sleeve 10 which forms a handle at the opposite end and it will be evident that the device may be used as a tray for the removal of the plate, napkin and condiment holders.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention,it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is V 1. A device of the character described including a base formed of a pair of oppositely bowed bars, extensions at each end of each of the bars, a condiment holder support on one pair of extensions, a napkin support pivoted between the opposite pair of extensions, and handles joining the extensions.

3, A device of the character described comprising a bar, arms formed at each end of the bar, downward extensions formed on the arms, inwardly directed extensions formed at the lower terminals of the downward extensions, clips carried by the inward extensions and arranged to engage the edge of a napkin to hold the same in place, arcuate bodies formed at the endsof the inwardly directed extensions, inwardly inclined extensions at the opposite ends of the arcuate bodies, condiment holder supports at the ends of the inwardly directed extensions, upwardly extending arms at the ends of the condiment holder supports, arms extending toward each other at the ends of the upwardly directed arms, and joined by a sleeve and forming a handle and a napkin supporting frame pivoted between the arms on the first mentioned bar to support a napkin.
