The invention relates to improvements in wagon acks.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of wagon jacks and to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive wagon jack of strong and durable construction adapted to be easily and quickly operated to lift a heavy load and capable of being compactly folded when not in use.

A furtherobject of the invention is to provide a lifting jack of this character equipped with means independent of its adjustable lifting lever for varying the height of the device for adapting it to different kinds of vehicles and for various other uses.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from thespirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wagon jack constructed in accordance with this invention, the base being in section. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the axlereceiving head or seat.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.

rality of notches 4 shouldered at their upper ends and adapted to be engaged by a V catch 5 of the base. The catch 5, which is mounted on the exterior of the tube, is

shown consisting of a tooth secured to a resilient member 6 having a handle 7 at one end and fastened at its other end to the exterior of the vertical tube 2 of the base. The catch may be variously constructed and it is adapted to engage the said notches for supporting the standard 1 at given elevations to vary the height of the wagon ack. By withdrawing the catch from the engaged notch when the standard is elevated the latter may be lowered and the tubular portion of the base may be of any desired length to afford the necessary range of adustment. The standard 1 is provided at the top with a curved approximately semicircular arm 9 7 extending horizontally and supporting the outer end of a stem 10 of a toothed plate 11. The arm 9 is preferably flat and the stem 10 of the plate 11 is secured to the standard by means of bolts 12 and 13, or other suitable fastening devices, and the bolt 12 also forms a pivot or fulcrum for a lever 14:. The lever 14:, Which consists of a bar of suitable size and strength, is provided intermediate of its ends with an opening 15 for the pivot bolt 12and it carries a dog or detent 16 for engaging the teeth of the plate 11. The

plate 11 has an arcuate edge provided'with the said teeth to form a toothed segment and a pawl or dog 16, which is connected with a latch lever 17, is adapted to engage in any of the spaces or recesses between the teeth of the-plate 11 for locking the lever.

The lever 14: is provided at one end with a suitable handle or grip 18 and it is equipped at its other end with a block'or plate 19 constructed of suitable metal and having a concave upper axle-receiving space 20. The block or plate 19 is provided with a central depending flange 21 having a perforation 22 for the reception of a bolt 23 or other suitable fastening device for securing the block or plate to the forward end of the lifting lever. The block or plate has a flat lower face-24 to fit the upper edge of the lever 14, and as it is approximately T shaped it is adapted to be fitted against either face of the-lever. When thedevice is not in use the lever is adapted to swing to a vertical position to fold it beside the standard 1. The wagon jack is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction and it possesses great strength and durability and is adapted to be easily and quickly operated for lifting a heavy load. Also when not in use it is adapted to be folded in a convenient position for carrying or storing.

What I claim is:

1. A jack of the class described including a standard provided with a curved projecting arm, a plate having a toothed periphery and provided With a stem secured to the standard and to the arm, an operating lever pivoted to the standard by one of the fastening devices of the stem and means carried by the lever for engaging the toothed plate for securing the lever in its adjustment.

2. A jack of the class described including a standard provided With a curved projecting arm, a plate having a toothed periphery and provided With a stem secured to the standard and to the arm, an operating lever pivoted to the standard by one of the fastening devices of the stem, an axle receiving plate having a curved upper face and provided With a' depending flange secured to the lever, said plate being seated upon the upper edge of the lever and a pawl or dog carried by the lever for engaging the toothed plate.
