To all whom t may concern i Be it known that I, ANTON HERZINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainview, in the county of Pierce, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tank-Heaters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. n

This invention relates to improvements in water heaters.

The principal obj ect of the invention is to provide a noveland eliicient device for heating water so as to induce a proper circulation.

Another object is to provide a heating device disposed within a closed tank and means for absorbing and revaporizing the condensation of moisture accumulating within the tank so that danger of the heating burner being put out is eliminated or reduced to a minimum.

Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing: Figure lis a top plan view of the device, Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough, Fig. 3 is a horizontal section therethrough, and Fig. 4.- is a perspective view of the moisture absorbing and dissipating means in connection with a portion of the burner.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 is a tank or other suitable inclosure which is provided with a hinged cover 11. Disposed in the bottom of the tank is a gasolene or other suitable burner 12, the same being fed from a tank 13 mounted at one side and at the upper end of the tank. Suitably supported over the burner isa drum 13a, the same being completely closed and having extending through its top and bottom walls hot air flues 14. Leading into the lower portion of the drum are pipes 15 which conduct the cold water thereinto while connected to the upper portion at the side of the drum are pipes 16 which conduct from the drumy the heated water as it rises.

Extending down into the tank at 'points adjacent the burner are pipes 17 which conduct air to the burner.

In the bottom of the tank adjacent the burner is a member 18 formed of` clay, cement or other hre-resisting but porous material. This member includes the base 19 and a laterally directed portion 20 at the upper end, which is disposed overthe flame of the burner. By reason of the fact that the tank is closed there will be a collection of condensed vapors therein which run to the bottom of the tank and, in time rise to a point suiicient to extinguish the flame of the burner. By providing the member 18 of porous material the greater part of this condensation is quickly absorbed and then revaporized over the burner so that the depth of the condensation in the bottom of the tank is kept down to a minimum and the flame of the burner protected therefrom.

2. In a water heater, the combination with a tank and a burner and water drum mounted therein, a member formed of porous fireproof material disposedfin the bottom of the receptacle and having'a portion extending laterally over the burner, the condensation'or moisture which collects in the bottom of the receptacle being absorbed by the said member and revaporized over the burner, whereby the burner is protected from extinguishing by the said collection of moisture.
