UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE ALBERT CRITCHERSON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSEIG-NOR TO' THE COLUMBUS DENTAL MANUFACTURING 60., OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, A CORPORATION.
RUGZE-MO-LD.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
Application filed January 2, 1915. Serial No. 450.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. CRrroHER- SON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rugee-Molds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in the rugae mold shown in my Patent No. 1,129,336, dated Feb. 23, 1915, and consists in means to assist in a correct adaptation of the mold to the teeth on the denture plate.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view of the lingual side of my improved rugee mold. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22, of Fig. 1, the mold having been inverted from the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 1, the mold having been inverted from the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4
is an enlarged perspective sectional view of the mold.
Experience has demonstrated the fact that denture plates made with a smooth lingual side, as is the usual custom, affect articulation to such an extent that persons using them find difliculty in clearly pronouncing certain words. It has also been found that the absence of rugee on the lingual side of denture plates reduces the power of the tongue to hold and manipulate food upon it, which results in imperfect mastication which affects the general health of the user.
The mold is provided with a marginal upstanding flange 6 which is higher across the back of the mold as indicated at 7, and lower at the front as at 8 in Fig. 3. Preferably the flange 6 is, comparatively speaking, very low at the front point of the mold for the reason that accurate adaptation is required at the front of the plate, and while it is just as necessary to have accurate adaptation at the rear of the plate, yet the form is such that very little changing of the metal is required at this point.
What I claim is:
A rugae mold for denture plates comprising a body portion having the formation of natural rugae, and an upstanding marginal flange, said flange being lower at the front and higher at the rear than at the sides of the body portion.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE ALBERT GRI'I'UHERSON.
Witnesses:
C. P. SHEEHY, R. B. TREAT.
