Description

G. J. SEISS.
BRACKET.
APPUCATION mzo APR. 1. 19:5.
Patented M21 2, 1916.
IMVENTGFL GEORGE .1: are eaten.
COMPANY, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, A CORPORATION OE 01116.
I BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Yatent.
Patented May 2, 1916..
Application filed April 2, i915. Serial No. 19,740.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonon J. Sarss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a. certain new and useful Bracket; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompan ing drawings, and to the characters 0' reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to brackets.
It particularly relates to an adjustable and interchangeable bracket for supporting devices, such as, horns, bells, lamps, etc, at any suitable angle upon a support such as, a bar or stanchion or other body. It is of particular value when used in connection with bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles for supporting lamps, horns, or bells and other alarm or sounding, or lighting devices, in a position convenient and accessible to the operator or driver.
The invention may be contained in many forms of constructions usable for difierent purposes, all of which come within the purview of my claims hereinafter appended. To show the practicability of my invention I have selected a bracket containing the invention as an example and shall describe it hereinafter. The bracket selected is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1, of the drawing illustrates a side view of the bracket, showing the horn supported in one position relative to the supporting bar. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the devices illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 illustrates the bracket supporting the horn illustrated in Fig. 1, at an angle 90 to' the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4 illustrates the supporting member of the bracket to which the device to be supported is connected. Fig. 5 illustrates in perspective one of the clamping elements of the bracket.
1, in the drawings, indicates a horn which I is supported by the bracket containing my invention. 2 is a suitable tube suchas a brace or bar or other rod or member of a motorcycle or other machine or article on which the horn is supported and to which the bracket is attached. 3 is a U-member having ears iormed on the leg 7 to which the horn 1 may be secured bymeans of the bolts 5 which extend through the ears 4. One leg 6 of the U extends to the horn and also acts as a support at the rear end of the horn. The U supporting member or plate 3 15 provided with four openings, slots, channels or engageable edges or points adapted to be engaged by clamping members located in the form of a square or in the points or corners of a square. In the particular form of the bracket shown the U- member is provided with four openings or slots Sand 10 which are disposed preferably in the form of a square, that is, their each having two lugs 18, clamp the U-memher 3 and the supporting body 2. The lugs 13 extend upward from the upper. edge of the clamping members and are bent preferably V-shape so as to engage with the edges of the holes 9 and 10 formed in the U- member 3 of the bracket. The lower portion 14 of the clamping members of the bracket are preferabl bent V-shape so as to engage with the tu e or supporting body 2. The clamping members are also preferably bulged along the vertical central portions 15 to give strength to the clamping members when they are clamped about the supporting body 2. A bolt 16 having a. nut 17 Xtends through openings 18 formed centrally and preferably near the top or vertical portion of the clamping menibersto clamp the bracket to the supporting body. 2. The V-shaped'lugs 13 of one of the clamping members may be inserted in any pair of the openings s and. 10 formed in the U" member 3 ot-thebracket and the other clamping member may be insermd in. the
other pair, that is, the lugs may be inserted ing members may then be drawn together by means of the bolt 16 which will clamp the clamping members not only about the supporting body 2, but will also clamp the U-member of the bracket between the V- shaped lugs 13 which will press against the edges of the'openings 9 and 10 of the U- member 3. This will permit the horn or other device to be supported either in parallel relation with respect to the supporting body 2 or at right angles to the supporting body 2-. Also, the horn or other device may i,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let,
ters Patent, is,- v
1. A supporting bracket having a supporting member, the supporting member having four square holes arranged in square formation and having parallel edges, a pair of clamping parts each part having a pair of clamping tongues inserted in either pair of openings, a means for drawing and. holding the parts together.
2. A supporting bracket having a sup porting member, the supporting member having four square holes arranged in square,
formation and having parallel edges, a pair of clamping parts each part having a pair of V-shaped clamplng tongues and \l-shapeol clamping portion, a means located intermediate the clamping tongues and the V- shapedclamping portions of the parts for drawing and holding the parts together.
testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
