claim, and desire to Secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

A machine of the character described having a pair of mangling instrumentamovable in parallelism one toward or away from the other, and means for controlling the application of pressure therebetween ineluding an intermediately and yieldingl fuleriinied lever wherein the movable instrunient journaled, the ulerum of said lever reiiiriiiiing permanently on the same side of the marigle.

In a machine ot the character de scribed, a surfacing-member and a padded pressing-member, one maintained in a relatively-ixed position and the other movable toward or away from the same, combined with a yieldingly-fulerunied lever-system carryingr and controlling the movable niember, and a feedtable also carried bv the levensystein and bearing a constant relation to the movable member during all changes of position in respect to the relativelyixed member, said system including a pair of levers fit-ted for oscillation on yielding iiilcra intermediate of their ends.
3. The combination, in a mangle, of a eurfaeing-roll, a pressure-roll, gears adapted to intel-mesh and positively rotate said rolls together', means including a lever wherein one of said rolls is journaled, an intermediate rocker for said lever, and a yielding eifppert for said rocker.
