WITN ESSES ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIGE.
CHARLES IB. BUSHNELL, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
MOP-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 3, 1915. Serial No. 64,886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. BUSH- NELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Mop- Wringers, of which the following is a speci-. fication.
My invention relates to wringers and'more particularly to a mop wringer.
The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel wringer means for association with 'a receptacle, the wringer means being actuatable after a mop has been placed therebetween, to efficiently wring the mop, novel guarding means being associated with the wringer means for preventing the mop from clogging between the ends of the wringer means, including the rollers and the guide bars and thus prevents the mop from sticking and tearing and also more or less interfering with the efiicient wringing of the mop.
Another object of my invention resides in the provision of improved brackets for slidably mounting the wringing rollers, the brackets serving to guide the rollers during the operation and also beingformed so that the guarding means are readily provided.
A still further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and. one that can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim forming a part of this specification.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the brackets; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my invention associated with a receptacle; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a receptacle showing my invention asociated therewith and illustrating to advantage the novel manner of positioning the wringer rollers and the formation of the guarding means.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like and corresponding parts throughout the different views, I provide a receptacle, to the inner sides of which extend my improved brackets 2. Each of these brackets consists of an elongated body 3 having an elongated longitudinal guiding slot 4: therein for apurpose to be hereinafter described. The ends of the brackets are bent angularly to provide securing ears 5. The ears are in turn provided with openings 6 for receiving suitablev fastening devices 7, the latter serving to rigidly yet removably connect the brackets at opposite points of the inner periphery of the receptacle adjacent the upper edge thereof. Each of the brackets is offset adjacent one terminal to provide arcuate shoulders7, while ears 8 having openings 9 therein extend from the top and bottom edges thereof. A brace 10 is formed. integral with the lower edge of each of the brackets and also integral with the lower ear or extension 8. A lateral flange 11 extends from the lower edge of eachbrace and serves as a guard in a manner to be hereinafter described. The flanges or guards 11 are arranged in a plane at an acute angle to the plane of the lower edge of the bodies-3 as illustrated to advantage in. Fig. 3 of the drawings. Wringing rollers Patented Apr. 1a, 1916.
12 are interposed between the brackets and I have their reduced ends rotatably mounted, in the openings 9 in the ears 8, said rollers,
being positioned directly above each other Another roller 13 has the respective ends thereof arranged in the slots 4. A yoke 1A has outwardly bent arms 15 arranged in close relation with the outer sides of the brackets and connected to the projecting reduced ends of the roller 13. The crown portion 16 of the yoke is bent outwardly and is pivotally connected through the medium of a suitable pin 17 to one end of a lever 18, the opposite end of which lever is fulcrumed through the medium of a pin 19 to an ear 20 on a base plate 21, the latter being rigidly connected to the lower outer surface of the receptacle through the medium of a suitable fastening device 22. A foot lever 23 has the inner end thereof pivotally connected to an ear 24 on the base plate through the medium of a suitable fastening device preferably a pin 25. Links 26 have the respective ends thereof pivoted upon opposite sides and intermediate the ends of the levers 18 and 23. To normally hold the roller 13 at the outer end of the slots 4 in a position so that a mop can be readily placed between the rollers 12 and '13, I havelprovideda subthe links.
stantially U-shaped spring 27 the Vertex of which bears againstv the links 26 while the arms are arranged in straddled relation-with thereof while the extreme outer ends are rigidly connected to the base plate as illustrated by the numeral 29. 1
The operation of my invention is as follows: A mop is placed between the rollers 12 and 13 and the foot leveris pushed downwardly which causes fthQlll'lkS to pull the upper end of the lever .18 outwardly and the roller 13 and relieve the strain from the reduced ends. While the roller 13 is clamping the mop, the guards 11 serve to guide the mop toward theintermediate portions of the rollers and prevent'the mop from clogging between the ends of the-rollers and. the guide bars, which usually causes the mop to stick and to tear, the'guards thereby serving 7 to aid in the efficient'wringing'of the mop. Of course, after the mop has been clamped,
by pulling upwardly between the' rollers, it
will be wrung whereupon the foot lever 23 can be released to allow the spring to return the roller 13 to its clamped position so that another mop can be subsequently wrung. I
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of -my invention, I
- desire it to be understood that I am not to be limited to the-exact details'showrn'however, I desire that great-stress be laid upon the arrangementv of the novel brackets for mounting and guiding the wringing rollers Coils 28 are formed in theflarmsj of the spring 27 adjacent the inner ends During this movement, the
as well as the guards formed when the brackets are cast.-
nection with the accompanying drawings, it can be easily seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and From the above description taken in conwhen assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings'comprehend only the general embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arran'gement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claim and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and; desire to secur by Letters Patent, is
. The combination with a receptacle, of slotted brackets secured to and extending across the receptacle, shoulders providedon i said brackets, laterally extending flanges formed on the brackets and serving as mop guides, relatively fixed'rollers journaled in the brackets and arranged'one above the CHARLES B. BUSHNELL.
