Description

T. C. SPELLING. COMBINATION BAND HOLDER, BUTTON HOLDER, AND NECKTIE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. B. 1915.
THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH 60., WASHINGTON, D. C.
Patented Apr. 11,1916.
3 nuewtoz THOMAS C. SPELLING, on NEW YORK, MY.
COMBINATION BAND-HOLDER, BUTTON HO'LDEIL, AND; NEOKTIE HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS C. SPELLING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Band-Holders, Button-Holders, and Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to necktie holders, and more particularly to that type wherein a ready formed tie may be held upon a plate which is detachably carried by an ordinary collar button.
It has for an object to provide a holder which will properly support a necktie, a tongue to receive and hold the free end of the neck band of the tie, and an opening in said plate to receive an ordinary collar button.
Further objects will be apparent from the following specification, appended claims, and drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank from which the holder is formed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a holder secured to a tie showing how the tie is held in its applica tion. Fig. A is an elevation of a portion of the holder, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of the holder with a portion of the fabric therein.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals indicate similar parts in the several views, there is shown a plate which is cut as at B to form a central aperture C, and in outlining the aperture (J, the plate is slitted to form a lip D which is slightly curved from the plane of the major portion of the blank.
A tongue E is formed on one edge of the plate and this tongue is bent over the plate as shown where the end F is threaded through a slot G in the lip formed by the slitted portions indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. This tonguehas prongs formed thereon, as by indenting portions of said tongue to cause pointed projections to extend from the opposite face. This tongue is curved at H to provide resiliency to said tongue, and also to provide an interval of space between said tongue and the plate.
The plate is slotted as at I to provide a means for securing a tape or a strip of fabric A Specification of Letters Patent. I

holes L formed therein so that the finished ties may be properly stitched to said plate.
The plate is used in the following manner: A strip of fabric, of which the tie is to be made is passed through the slots I as shown in Fig. 5, and the ends are then tied in the usual manner forming a tie, substantially as shown in Fig. 3. A neck band is then sewed to the tie, and the free end of this band will be gripped between the tongue F and plate by the prongs formed in this tongue, and to properly hold the necktie against displacement, the head of a collar button will enter the aperture (1 to allow the lip D to hook under said head. The knot of the tie is held away from the head of the collar button by the arched portion of the tongue E.
Modifications may be made in view of the appended claims and no limitation is implied by the drawing which is submitted for illustrative purposes only.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A necktie holder comprising a plate having a central aperture formed therein to receive the head of a collar button, a tongue formed on said plate, said tongue being bent to overlie said central aperture, said plate having a transverse slot formed therein, and said tongue being threaded through said slot and bent to form a gripping member with said plate.
2. A necktie holder comprising a plate, having a central aperture formed therein, an upper and lower lip formed by said aperture, said upper lip having a transverse slot formed therein, said lower lip being rolled outwardly to form a grip behind the head of a collar button, said plate being slotted vertically beside said central aperture, and a tongue extending from the lower edge of said plate being bent to overlie the central aperture, and threaded through transverse slot to overlie said plate above the slot.
3. A necktie holder comprising a plate having a central aperture formed therein, upper and lower lips formed by said central aperture, said upperlip being slotted transversely, said lower lip being rolled outwardly to form a projection, said platehaving vertical slots formed therein beside said central aperture to receive a neck band,
J thereto, and said plate, also has thread thread holes forme in said plate adjacent 11o Signed at the city of New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 7th day of September A. D. 1915. 1:)

the edges thereof, a tongue formed on said plate bent to overlie said central aperture, said tongue being threaded through said transverse slot, said tongue being rolled to overlie said plate above the transverse slot, and prongs formed in said tongue to engage a neck band between said tongue and plate.
