STDPIEER 30R BOTTLES.
imits.
To all whom it may 00 nccrn I Be it known that l, ALBAN SCIU-IALZ, a. citizen of the Republic of Brazil, residing at 1319Belmont avenue, in the city (if-Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Stoppers for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stoppers or closures for bottles and other receptacles and more particularly to stoppers of paper or other suitable material utilized to close the mouths of bottles for containing milk and other liquids.
The objects of my invention are to so con struct the stopper that it may be easily, can reniently and quickly removed from or placed in position in the mouth of thebottle and to so ar 'ange a part thereof that it may be moved or turned outwardly on the remainder to provide a small opening through which the contents of the bottle or a portion thereof may be poured. These and other objects-l accomplish ashereinafter set forth in the following description and as particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in Which a. preferred adaptation or embodiment of my invention is shown.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l, is a plan view pt my improved stopper or closure. Fig. 2, is an edge view of the stop per with the finger grasping projection and the door turnedto their open position. Fig.
3, is a vertical section through a fragment of a bottle neck and a stopper in place therein, the projection and door of the st pper being shown closed. in full lines and opcn in dotted lines. Fig. 4, is a central vertical section through the improved stopper with the door in open position, the curve of movement of the door being indicated by dotted lines Fig. 5, is an enlarged edge elevation of the stopper with the door closed to illustrate the Wedge shaped form of the door. Fig. 6, is a plan View of blank from which the stoppers are made to illustrate. the manner in which the said stoppers are cut to prevent Waste of material.
In referring to the accompanying drawings in detail, like numerals designate corresponding parts.
In Fig. '3, ll haveshown a fragment 1, of the neclr of a conventional bottle utilized as a. receptacle for milk or other liquids which provided with an interior annular groove Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed may 21, 1915.
Serial No. 29,4519.
2-, in, which the stopper or closurreis adapted tobe fitted.
My improved stopper or closure as shown comprises a fiat dish 3 of paper or other so suitable material which is oil circular form except at the point where a linger grasping" and lifting projection 4, is formed. This projection is integral. with the disk and is preferably formed from the small nearly triangular portion of material. 5, located in the blank between the per ries of the disks to be cut therefrom as shown in F 6. The two side edges or? the projecti n curve in a direction oppositely to the C'lI'Cl n'terential curve of the disk and merge in said circumferential curve substantially as shown in Fig. 1. The projection 4., is adapted to be turned up at its inner extremity on the curve f the dish. as indicated b Y the dotted line 6 i in ig. 1, so as to assume approximately the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3, When. in place in the mouth of a bottle. c
To permit the. removal of the contents of the bottle ora portion thereof without re moving the stopper or closure, 1 provide a door 7 which is integral wi h the dial; ai is formed by cutting two slit 0 t h of said disk which extol; preferably diametrically, se shown the door is appro in form of-a segment of the cli: edges and the correspondnu the slit in the disk are pref a slight slant so that the door will Wedge into place substantial cated in Fig. The projer erablv extended from the dc t, the disk 3, so that a short pull upward on the projection will lift the door portion and turn it to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and full lines in Fig. t, thereby providing; a small opening through which the contents or a portion of the contents of the bottle may be poured. 'lhe line upon "which the door turns in opening;- or closing is shown by the dotted line 9, in 1, and the curve of its movement is indicated by the dotted curved line 10 in Fig". l.
The two great advantages of this invention are that the contents of the bottle may. be removed Without removing" the stopper and an extremely convenient means is pro vided for opening or closing the small opening in the stopper and also removing the said stopper from the bottle.
While l have illustrated and described ti l i so
preferred forms of construction for carry ing my invention into effect, thls is capable of a \vlde range cf .var1at1on, alteration,
I modification and change without departing from the spirit of'lny invention, I therefore do not wish to be limited to the construction herein Shown and described, but desire to avail myself of all such variations, alterations, modifications and changes as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims or may be construed to be within the scope thereof by involving the doctrine of equivaients. i
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described, comprising a disk having two radial slits, a segmental portion between said slits constituting a door, the portions of said disk on opposite sides of said door constituting supports for said door, when closed, a triangular finger grasping projection extending t'ron fsaid door, the door being adapted to turn on a straight line extendin'g'between the inner ends of the slits and the finger grasping projection to turn on a curved line .forming a continuation of the circumferential peripherial edge of the disk, the door and finger grasping projection being integral with each other and the disk, and
having five sides,'one of which forms the juncture with the disk, two others of which are straight and are formed by the slits,'
and the remaining two of which are slightly curved and constitute the exterior sides of the finger grasping pro ection.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a circular disk having two radial slits a door formed by the slitted segmental portion of said disk and a'triangular finger grasping projection extending centrally out from said door, themarginal portions on opposite sides of the slitted segmental portion constituting supports for said door In testimony whereof I have hereunto aliixed my name in the presence of two wit nesses.
